Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
The gravy train of heavyweight boxing has drawn another fighter back into the ring, Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock is back in the ring in Canada on Saturday.
48 years old, and much the same as any other oldie doing the rounds all I can say is that I hope he doesn't get hurt. One thing pointed out is that it was a shoulder injury that made him quit in 2001 rather than a defeat, but I doubt he'll have improved his reflexes or become tougher with age.
And he's calling out all the usual suspects too.
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
In his Prime Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock was a force to be reckoned with. He was big 6'3 routinely having his weight fluctuate between the mid 220's to 240 and he had a hell of a reach 82".
Now at 6'3 211 he's very average for a heavyweight and who knows if he still has any power left? Who knows if he can take a punch at that weight? Ruddock is one of the guys I LOVE to put in hypothetical matches because he was aggressive, he was inconsistent, yet very powerful....too bad he's so old now. He could fight Holyfield or Rahman or Golota and those would be decent matches I guess.
If Sergei Liakhovich can't make a successful comeback then I doubt Ruddock can
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
In fairness, he is setting himself a fairly shallow progression curve, hoping for two tune-up fights before he gets a fight for the Canadian heavyweight title against Neven Pajkic, who lost to Tyson Fury.
At that level then I think that even a faded Ruddock should be able to avoid serious harm, it's just when he gets up to the larger heavier hitting guys that concerns me. Maybe someone should start a masters heavyweight title for these senior boxers to go for.
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
His weight doesnt sound good. He is now a vegan and I have a feeling hes obviously lost muscle and strength. Like Tyson now, look at his neck and he must have lost a couple of inches off it, just doesnt look the same man with no meat in his diet.:p
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
Bring on Holyfield, Botha, Barrett or Toney. Go seniors
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock

LOL... C'mon, cut the old geezer some slack. He's seeing this parade of old fogies and is probably getting his own competitive juices going. (Or is that acid reflux?)
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
I don't see him having much success
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
Put love to have seen him fighting now if he was at his peak, that left hook was chilling. He was better than any fighter that either Klit have ever faced (except Lewis TKO 6) Not saying he would've beaten them, but would certainly have been their sternest test.
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
The old fighters should set up their own senior tournament tat would be fun to see.
Re: Another Heavyweight comeback....Razor Ruddock
Not great but then again I'm probably the biggest fan of the youngsters coming through who I feel could, at the very least be competitive with each other.
