Re: Pumped for this fight
Thank you for sharing because did not know any of that!
Takes me back to the days when mainstream boxing channels showed these fights because they were cheap to get but provided good quality boxing. They would go into great detail about the fighters who were legends in their country. I would never have known about the Galaxy brothers, Sun Kil Moon, Sit Chitlada, Yuri Arbachakov, who beat Kittikasem who lost to Michael Carbajal.
If it was not for the channel I would have not known these great boxers.
Re: Pumped for this fight
Funny that New Years Eve is an actual big boxing date for Japan, so bizarre to imagine that ever happening in the west, boxers hate training through the Christmas period (so they always say) let alone selling shows and competing with peoples holiday spending (pissup) time.
I've seen ancient looking Melindo a few times. Rey Loreto is a strawweight that always catches my eye (just lost to CP). Makes me laugh when people state they don't like the little men because they can't punch yet these funkers are littered with highlight reel sparko records.
Re: Pumped for this fight
Melindo won his IBF title from Akira Yaegashi. Who if I recall correctly was in the last 108 pound unification bout with Kazuto Ioka in 2012. His only loses are to Estrada and an technical decision in 6 to Javier Mendoza after the Dr stopped the fight due to a cut on Mendoza. Was ruled from a accidental head clash but looked to be from a punch. Has fought and beat some very good fighters. His last fight was a very close decision over former 105 titlist Hekkie Budler.
Re: Pumped for this fight
Kyoguchi just keeps impressing me.
Re: Pumped for this fight
Re: Pumped for this fight
That was a very good fight. Kyoguchi is relentless and throws technically very vicious shots. Good finish.
Re: Pumped for this fight
Kyoguchi has recently vacated his IBF minimumweight title and makes his 108 debut in Sep-25 against talented unbeaten Indonesian Monabesa (18-0-2, 8 kos).
Kyoguchi has expressed interest in the Flyweight division, so his stay at 108 may be short lived. A tantalising fight with Kosei at 112 could be on the cards in a year or so.
Re: Pumped for this fight
We just had Hiroto Kyoguchi vs Ken Shiro in 2 rounds of sparring/ exhibition. Hopefully this leads to a future clash. Shiro defeated my boy 3 fights to 1 in the amateurs I think.

Re: Pumped for this fight
Quality sparring there, I guess when it is an exhibition you can afford to take chances and look good.

Both guys have big fights coming up at the end of the year. I think they used bigger gloves and chose to wear headgear due to this.
We need to see more of this between top guys.

Earn some extra money doing exhibitions would be a good idea maybe we could get Khan v Brook to see if it is any good as a taster for fans before they have to buy the PPV. :)

I think this was on the undercard for a domestic lightweight fight.
Imagine if we got 2 top 10 guys from a division, giving us a 2 round exhibition as an undercard bout, (probably much better than some mis matches), especially if there was potential that they could fight in the future.
Oh you don't have to imagine it, cause that's what just happened.
Re: Pumped for this fight
I guess it's also using their amateur rivalry to help to continue to build a potential future fight.
Re: Pumped for this fight
Wanheng Menayothin and Knockout CP Freshmart fought an exhibition, I watched on a private Youtube video. It won't let me post it here. Lets hope they can do it in a pro fight.
Here's the link, you will probably have to watch on YT:
