Dawson Headlines at Foxwoods.

ByBoxing Press 23/11/200423/11/2004

PROVIDENCE, RI (November 22, 2004) – World Boxing Council youth middleweight champion ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson (15-0, 10 KOs), of New Haven (CT), has a lot to be thankful for this holiday. Dawson will be featured in his first main event December 10 against former World Boxing Association champion Carl ‘The Squirrel’ Daniels (49-4-1, 31 KOs) in a ten-round title match headlining “Bragging Rights,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) in association with Foxwoods Resort Casino and CN8, The Comcast Network at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Chad’s also rated number nineteen by the WBC and fighting once again in his home state at Foxwoods. In addition, the twenty-two-year-old Dawson has the strong support of his promoter Jimmy Burchfield, manager Lou Mayo, trainer John “Iceman” Scully and fans after Chad went through a trying time in his young boxing career and life.

“I’ve been through a lot this year,” Chad reflected. “I’m back on the job and doing what I do best. I took this fight against former world champion Carl Daniels because I want to show everybody in boxing that I’m one of the top middleweights in the world. I respect Daniels, but I’m going to leave the ring with my title belt.” In the ten-round co-feature rematch, IWBF light welterweight champion Jane ‘Fleetwood Assassin’ Couch (24-6, 8 KOs), comes across the Atlantic Ocean from her home in (Fleetwood) England to make her first IWBF title defense against the same opponent she won the belt from last June in a thrilling match, Jaime ‘The Hurricane’ Clampitt (14-3, 5 KOs), fighting out of Narragansett (RI).

“Bragging Rights” will be taped live and air in primetime Saturday, December 11, 7:30-10:00 PM/ET on CN8, The Comcast Network to 6.4 million homes from Maine to Maryland. CN8’s coverage of “Bragging Rights” will also be available on Comcast Digital Cable’s “ON DEMAND” service and online at www.cn8.tv. Overall, “Bragging Rights” will be broadcast on tape delay in up to 20-million additional households nationwide.

U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada, of Providence (RI), makes his pro debut in a four-round Special Heavyweight Attraction against Anthony Ottah. Estrada had a 261-14 (excluding international matches) amateur record, highlighted by qualifying for the U.S. 2004 Olympic Boxing Team and winning a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games.

Estrada’s vast potential as a pro may be best illustrated by his amateur victories against five contemporary professionals sporting a combined record of 87-4-3, 58 KOs: Malik Scott (19-0, 10 KOs), DaVarryl ‘Touch of Sleep’ Williamson (21-3, 17 KOs), Malcolm ‘The Showstopper’ Tann (13-1, 6 KOs), Donnell ‘The Real Touch of Sleep’ Holmes (18-0-1, 18 KOs), and USBA cruiserweight champion Felix ‘Bad News’ Cora, Jr. (15-0-2, 7 KOs).

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard in separate matches are Providence’s unbeaten super middleweight Joey ‘The KO Kid’ Spina (13-0, 10 KOs), now trained by former world light heavyweight champ Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Brockton cruiserweight Tim ‘The Hammer’ Flamos (17-2-1, 7 KOs) and Providence junior welterweight ‘Steamin” Josh Beeman (3-1, 1 KO).

  • Chris Billam-Smith vs Ryan Rozicki 03/06/2026
Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. CBS became world champion when more talented British boxers like Okole and Riakporhe did not. In fact he beat both and forced them to go up to heavyweight. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]

  • Why was Usyk so bad? 27/05/2026
What was the major factor for Usyk to perform so poorly against Rico? Rico better than expected, skilled kick boxer, huge size, awkward style, surprise element? Age of Usyk finally showing up? Weight Usyk was too heavy? Usyk not taking the fight seriously? Ukraine war on his mind? 7 posts - 5 participants Read full topic […]

  • Jai Opetaia saying what many of us think 26/05/2026
Jai Opetaia Says Boxing Rewards Talk More Than Skill This has long been a thought of mine, but of course it’s always refreshing when an actual boxer says it. Jai is obviously considered by most to be the top dog at cruiser, a division which unfortunately lacks the big names. Surely avoided by many. It could be speculated that at some point Jai could follow t […]
