    Default Kelly Pavlik..

What are your thoughts on Kelly Pavlik?

Retiring at 30...was it too soon?

Did you like him as a fighter?

I also liked Pavlik. I think his outside the ring antics probably contributed to his early demise and deterioration . His only losses were to 2 excellent fighters. His record is a bit lite on name victories tho.

Martinez was a good fighter but not amazing

he probly made his name off the Pavlik and maybe Williams wins, and I think Pavlik was well on the addiction slide by the time he fought Martinez

Was his alcohol problem that bad that he had to retire?

Shame as he had a big future and was tough fighter who got stronger as the fight went on.

I wonder how he is doing now?

    Is he still in boxing?

Wasted talent but heard he did not make a lot of money and that what he earned was lost.

Before his life started to fall apart, I really liked him as a boxer and as a person; he was humble, working hard and delivered beautiful and exciting performances. Then, it all unraveled... Did he retire too soon? Hard to answer, but I think that it could have been more damageable to him to keep fighting while beating his body so bad with alcohol.

I think had the Ward fight taken place he would have been schooled badly again. I could see him as a gatekeeper after that.

Pavlik was the great American White Hope for awhile.

He was a terrific fighter with punching power, always a favorite with the fans... he was gutsy... he was humble and personable outside the ring, sort of the "anti-Floyd"... and he fought whoever they put in front of him, records and zeroes be damned. Hell... I was a big fan. And let's face it, American boxing fans were hungry for just someone like that.

But alas, his personal problems caught up with him... and there went his career.

What? Martinez was a machine. Noone at light middle would fight him so he made a name for himself destroying bigger guys at middle.
