HBO makes a good decision by not accepting Mijares. Only to follow it up with a bad one. Mathebula is no more of a threat than Mijares

Agree. This is a complete waste of time. He shouldn't be fighting anyone other than Nishioka, Rigondeaux (thought that one would likely be a stinker), or Mares. Or Moreno if he wants to move up.

good thing they didn't, Donaire should get a flush kick in the ass for following up with such weak opposition after a somewhat bland showing, fight Mares, Agbeko, or Moreno and stop fighting smaller guys

Donaire barely draws any fans or ratings, he's in no place to get money from HBO for B-level opponents.

This is another example where HBO falls in love with a guy because he's talented and doesn't force him to fight legit dangerous opponents.

Yes, Mathebula isn't anything to write home about. The ONLY redeeming quality is that it is a unification fight, which doesn't happen all the time. It doesn't add any merit to the selection though, when you consider the other possibilities.

Hbo should not be picking fights period! or deciding directly or indirectly who fights whom. These broadcaster/promoters have done more to fuck over this sport than anyone along with their conjoined twin PPV.
