Default 26 Years: The Dewey Bozella Story

    Hi guys,

I was aware of the story of this guy when it came to light last year, but only this morning did I check out the ESPN Films documentary on him.

I'm interested to find out your take on this blog I wrote on it. Am I being too harsh? Basically, I think it was great that he got the chance to make his pro debut, but sometimes I think stories like these are created, stage-managed, whatever you want to say. Watching the doco, I couldn't help but think there was no way they'd let a guy that slow get licensed if somebody (ie Golden Boy and the filmmakers) wasn't going to be making some money off of it.

Anyway, maybe I just think too much, but here are my thoughts on it anyway:-

I saw and heard his story 1st hand as I was at the BWAA Awards Dinner a few weeks ago and he talked on his life. I thought it was the speech of the night and I wasn't the only one that thought that.

Agree hhascup, he's a very articulate guy. A really amazing story, and it's great how he improved himself in prison and doesn't harbour any grudges, at least none that you can see.

Good blog. Not too harsh, main critcism appears to be that his health could have been affected and that it was a bit too "staged".

I read about his story in either Boxing News or online somewhere a while back. I obviously hope he wouldn't be seriously hurt but could never ever begrudge a man his dreams that late in life after being wrongfully imprisoned for so long.

    Alls well that ends well.
