    Default Tyson-Spinks.

Why was Tyson able to beat Spinks so quickly? Was it because Spinks was afraid, or was Tyson just a bad style match-up for him?

I honestly don't know if it would haven been much different if Spinks weren't afraid. Tyson was bigger and stronger than him

Spinks came in a career heavy so had planned to take it to Tyson.

Spinks did panic when he got hit, but his plan was to take Tyson to the later rounds. If that happened then he would have had a slim chance.

Basically Spinks met a real and prime heavyweight. I think Spinks would have lost to Tucker and the other fighters he avoided and gave up his title.

Like everybody Tyson fought, Spinks was shit scared of him. But there’s different types of scared.
    1. Being scared and avoiding him.
    2. Being scared and going into self-preservation mode.
    3. Being scared and thinking “fuck it, I’m gonna get smashed , but I’m gonna try and smash the cunt!”
People like Spinks and Berbick to be fair , thought “fuck it, I’m scared, but I’m gonna have a go!” Unfortunately for them , the reality was that there was good reason for their concern.
You could see how frustrated Berbick was for example, when he just couldn’t fucking stand up.

Spinks was interested in fighting Tyson because that was where the money was and he was holding out for a big offer. A bit like Wilder and AJ.

Because Spinks had never been hit that hard before and his limitations became immediately obvious. He had been carefully matched at heavyweight to set up this big payday (Tyson got paid $22 Million for 91 second 1st round KO, and Spinks got $13.5 Million)

3 things stuck out about the fight though.

    1) Tyson's entrance music : Tyson entrance music to this fight was without question the best entrance music to a fight that I've ever heard. Just really intimidating. Cold. It sounded like Coil-Time Machines

    2) The fight was on a Monday night : From what I've read the reason for that was because the promoters wanted all gamblers to keep on gambling throughout the weekend, and by Monday, they would have more money to place bets.

    3) The first knockdown : Tyson 1st knockdown punches of Spinks were two of the best punches I've seen, the uppercut then the body shot. Just perfect.

Tyson was one of the best ever the first 3/4 rounds as well. Before he fatigued, his head movement stopped and his punches became telegraphed.

when Tyson was champ it was exciting times everyone knew who he was. as kids we thought no one had a chance against him. infact most people on the planet thought no one had a chance.

I seem to recall the same.

Was this one on ITV over here ? Vague memories but think it was pre Sky taking over

I am sure it was Saturday/Sunday morning as I stayed up and it was on ITV. The delay to the fight was when Spinks asked Tyson to put his boxing gloves on again.

I think Michael Spinks had never fought someone who he felt wanted to do him legitimate harm...Larry Holmes said Tyson was the first guy he fought that had that aura about him so I reckon it was similar for Spinks.

I swear if they fought 100 times I think Tyson would end up winning 110 times , the styles were not good and Spinks' best attributes were negated by Tyson's style. Spinks' style was about drawing someone in and sticking and moving, Tyson's style was about chasing down a fighter, avoiding their desperation punches, and landing power shots in devastating fashion. So Spinks' style allowed for aggression only Tyson's style gave him no opportunity to stick and move, in fact the "sticking" was helpful to Tyson as it opened up windows for his power punches.
