Default Ever hear of a Native American called Manny Pakaowi?

My wife (bless her little heart) used to watch boxing with me when we first got married 30 + years ago, but as time went by she lost interest, the last fight she watched with me was Tyson vs. Douglas.

These days, my wife doesn't know who most of the currently active fighters are, but she does remember Shane Mosley. A couple weeks ago after the Pacquiao vs. Mosley fight my wife exclaims: "I read in the Sports section of the newspaper that Mosley got beat up by some Indian fighter named "Pakaowi". I didn't bother correcting her, I just said yeah, Pakaowi is an Apache Indian, with a wicked left hook he calls his tomahawk punch.

Any of you guys got any interesting boxing stories related to your wives/significant others?

I remember watching Angelo Dundee on the Pac-DLH 24/7 show. He pronounce it that way too.

Similar thing with one of HBO commentators during Pac-Ledwaba fight.

Not a significant other but my sister. 20 years ago she was a save-the-whales-nuclear-freeze-it's-all-for-the-children-pacifist-Peter-Paul-and-Mary-loving-quasi-hippie.

She and her boyfriend (later husband) were living in Atlanta when I went to visit them the weekend of the firts Bowe-Holyfield fight. She was appalled when David and me told her we were going to watch the fight. The barbarity of it! But to her credit she sighed deeply, grabbed a book (probably Rachel freaking Carson) and sat down while we watched. I noticed her sneaking peaks as the action rose and when Holyfield launched his famous counterattack in the tenth round she jumped up and shouted "Get'im Evander!" I believe this moment began her personal renaissance.

Chrsissy now has four lovely children, makes me look like a liberal and among other things helps out returning soldiers. She still likes PP&M.

Benn v McClellan, my sister went crazy when he came back after that first round knockdown to win the fight later on.

My girl really likes boxing. She geniunely does...

She's predicted Margarito would beat Cotto, Morales would beat Pac and Calzaghe would beat Kess. She thinks Pacquiao should have won the 1st JMM fight but lost the 2nd one.

She's been ringside with me at almost all of the fights JLC-Corrales I, Izzy-Rafa I & III, JMM-Polo, Martinez-Bunema to name a few...
