Default Kessler vs Green @ 175 for a WBC Silver "trinket" on 5/19

Kessler vs Green For The WBC Silver Title in Play, 5/19 - Boxing News

    By Per Ake Persson

According to sources in Denmark and the United States, the World Boxing Council has approved a "WBC silver title fight at light heavyweight" - for Mikkel Kessler when he returns on May 19 in Copenhagen. Kessler´s opponent is said to be Allan Green. It will be the Viking Warrior´s debut at 175 and his first fight since June of last year.

Earlier this week - Kessler's promoter, Kalle Sauerland, "killed" the rumors of a possible fight against the WBA interim-champ at super middleweight, Brian Magee, claiming that the Irishman had priced himself out.

The WBA's regular champ at 168, Karol Balzsay, defends the title against Dimitri Sartison on April 21 in Schwerin and that took out another name from Sauerland´s list. IBF champion Tavoris Cloud was also mentioned, but has a mandatory due to Karo Murat.

How the hell does Green keep getting quality fights. This guy has been done for some time now but keeps getting good fights. Kessler if completely healthy beats him in a wide UD.

Sometimes I wonder why they even hold the fights for these anymore. They'd do better filming the sanctioning body excepting an envelope full of cash and just handing over its glorified paperweight.

Wasn't it Kessler, who was suppose to fight for the WBO title at 168 against Robert Stieglitz? He cancel twice and now moving up in weight. What's wrong with that picture? And how is it for a title? Kessler never fought at 175!!!

This thread answers another thread. Title don't mean nothing!!!!

This version of Kessler will have his head chomped off at 175. I don't see why he would move up to 175 when he could have made a lot of money facing Froch or Bute at 168 unless he really can't safely make weight any longer.

Exactly!!! The fight was already made for the WBO title. If he could have won that, he might have had another chance at Ward.

    Kessler beats him easy.

When I first saw this thread I thought Kessler was fighting Danny Green

Anyway, Allan Green probably will come up short again, but I think he would fuck up Chavez Jr. And that says a lot about Chavez Jr. as Green is a lower eschelon fringe top 10 contender at 168 (where Chavez should be fighting due to his weight).

Rubbish fight. Kessler will win easily.

I don't see why he is fighting at LHW.

I agree, why go to 175 when there was a lot of unfinished business at super middle? doesn't make any sense to me. Unless he hopes to feast on easy defences of the bogus trinket

It was also mentioned that the winner will be in line for the winner of Dawson vs Hopkins. This don't make no sense at all. How can Green get a title shot after losing sl badly in his previous fight? Not to mention at 168? Then be in line for a major payday. Somebody call Ward, and tell him he needs to get back in the ring before he loses out fight Dawson or Hopkins.

Yeah, I don't see why he would move up unless he had trouble with making 168. He had an easy(IMO) title fight against Stieglitz all lined up. Sauerland must want Abraham against the Stieglitz-Groves winner.

There are some interesting matchups for Mikkel at 175. Assuming he takes care of business against Green.

    Jean Pascal - Boxer
    Tavoris Cloud - Boxer
    Nathan Cleverly - Boxer
    Isaac Chilemba - Boxer
    Beibut Shumenov - Boxer
    Gabriel Campillo - Boxer

I agree there are some interesting matches, throw in Hopkins/ Dawson, Sillakh & Erdei. But all those guys will be difficult & I could see Kessler potentially losing to all of them

Kessler must have serious issues making super middle as I cannot understand why he would move up in weight. Green must have connections to keep getting opportunities.
