    Default The Situation At 140

How do you see this playing out? Will Ramirez fight Prograis? Who wins the Flanagan vs Hooker fight? Where is Saucedo going to get a shot?

There is drama there, too. Saucedo used to beat up Hooker, sparring, back in 2012, 2013. Could he beat him now? Or Flanagan? He has also done well with Ramirez on several occasions, from last year going back six years. Prograis and Saucedo have the same management.

What is your take on it? We have Flanagan but looks manufactured by the TV company to me and may lose his next fight which is his first serious test

I haven't seen Flanagan, but I figure Saucedo will end up fighting him, or Hooker, should he win. The winner of that fight will fight the winner of Ramirez vs Prograis. I think that, of the four, Hooker is the only non Top Rank fighter, as far as I know. It wouldn't surprise me if that was not the case, or if he wins and signs with TR; his manager certainly knows people there.

Who will come out on top, I don't know. Saucedo gets hit too much; in fact, none of his shortcomings have been addressed over the last three years. On the other hand, he is in peak condition and access to top sparring has him doing what he does as well as he can. Prograis beat Abel Ramos and I think that is a very good victory; Ramos was well thought of at the time, by Top Rank and generally.

I got Prograis, I said in another thread that Prograis vs Taylor will be the best fight to make down the line.

It’s a weight class without anybody that good which makes it semi interesting. I am not super familiar with all of them so we will see how it works out. I think that Lipinets rises back to the top unless Garcia sticks at the weight.

I also heard a rumor that they were looking at a WBSS at 140, including Mikey, Ramirez, Relikh, Flanagan/ Hooker, Broner, Lipinets, Prograis and Taylor.

    That line up sounds awesome.

Those series are a good idea for divisions without much going on. Good way to drum up interest.

I reckon Garcia should look to wipe out this division, because if he goes up to 147, I reckon Spence and Crawford will have way too much for him.

Do you think there are matches at 140 that will pay well enough to interest him?

That’s a very good question, but I look at it a different way. Within 1-2 fights at 147, he will likely get overpowered and beat and “exposed” and his value quickly diminishes.
Whereas if his stock continues to rise at 140, his p4p credentials and standing in the game increases, and then a possibility of Loma coming up that far. That should make him a few bucks.

I think that you are probably correct in that line of thinking. But I wonder how much value he places on winning a title in another weight class, which I figure he can do; he would most likely defeat either Mattyhsse or Pac. After that, his options would be severely limited.

I agree. At 140, he becomes a very legit p4p fighter. Then he can move up once he cleans out the division and get the big payday fights.

Mikey jumps weight so much, many will give him a pass for rising to 147 to take Matthysse's belt, then doing back to 140. I'm not saying I agree with it but 5 divisional titles looks good on a legacy.

Mikey needs to sit tight and clean house. He keeps jumping up and Loma off Linares win would look massive. Like Prograis over Ramirez. Flanagan should turn Hooker over his knee. Early into fight year but Relikh controlling and near clowning Rances stands out. Broners last stand may come vs Vargas in CW but doubt he still makes 140 if he wins. Apparently Orozco finally made 140.
