    Question Lead Hook Question

I do understand when throwing a hook to the head the main points to focus on is making sure you have proper positioning, good hip and shoulder torque while keeping the fist to elbow parallel to the ground. My question is Knuckles up or knumb up
Which is better or is one or the other completely wrong... I have seen both thrown, and i have had people say it should be thrown only one way or it can be thrown both ways...

    WHICH IS IT?

Why don't you find out for yourself while you're training, which position feels more comfortable to you. Both palms in, and palms down has been used effectively and with power by good fighters. I'm sure that that they had to find out what felt better to them.

Personally I found that turning my fist palms made the difference to me, and it's little easier on my shoulder.

There is no right or wrong way. Work on the proper mechanics of throwing the left hook, and then when you have it down, figure out what hand position works best for you.

    I personally use both...

The reason why i brought it up was because someone was trying to tell me that there is only one right way to throw it (palm in)..>And i didn't agree...

    Thought so....

As a southpaw i became very accustom using the palm down hook to get over an orthodox opponents jab... When match up with another soutpaw i found palm-in gave me a bit more range...

Am i correct in those findings

Whatever works for you. I've seen guys throw the longer hooks palm in without any problems, just make sure you have the proper mechanics of the hook.

If you're countering over another southpaw's jab, such as in slipping to the inside and throwing the right hook over top, it might feel a little more comfortable if you rotate your knuckles inward like you do against an orthodox boxer.

A leaping lead hook can catch people out cold, safe only if you time one off their movement exactly; but you would want to have palm in and little finger down if going for the chin or you'll break it with that weight moving forwards behind it over a distance.

In close depending on the target palm down but both can work to suit your own movements and the target once again. When moving out towards the side like slipping down under their arm and then going for their ribs, palm down flat punch seems to fit naturally and to double hook down then up I like the turn and force of changing them. But its distance and target.

Yeah nothing worse than a dislodged pinky knuckle.
