Default HBO PULLS OCTOBER PPV DATE TO AIR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLEHEADER!

Boxingtalk.com has been informed that HBO has pulled it's October 7 PPV date, which Top Rank Inc had on hold for an Antonio Margarito fight. We understand that HBO pulled the date so Don King Productions can stage a heavyweight championship doubleheader featuring Sergei Liakhovich and Nikolay Valuev in seperate title defenses. Liakhovich is expected to face Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride while Valuev will face former title challenger Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett. Madison Square Garden appears to be the frontrunner to host the event as this goes to print

No way! Not just one appalling fight, but TWO!

Maybe we could tempt Gary Mason out of retirement to fight Danny Williams for a triple header of out of shape, ponderous big men who can bore us senseless for another 12 rounds of cuddling.

Spot on Galaxy, the Heavyweight division is boxing's biggest embarrassment.

Sergei is exciting great to see that he is taking a step down to fight club fighter mcBride; how is that going to advance things? He should use the positive feeling people have for him now to fight a high profile opponent. But its good that he is busy. McBride is big and thats always a threat. But Sergei wins.

Valuev: much better than you think. This is the right fight for him. He needs a win in the US to set him up for the big fight against a top contender. He could have faught Holyfield or some other faded legent as well to buld name recognition, but this is good. And he is keeping busy. Let me tell you a thing about Valuev; the more he is pressured the better he is. I have seen all his later fights and this is the pattern: slick fighters go the distance and have a chance to win on points (evidence: L. Donald, Ruiz) aggressive puncher fighters are always knocked out (evidence: Rhino, Levin, Beck). But valuev of today is no the Valuev who boxed Donald; he has added a lethal uppercut for incoming shorties, and a klitschkoesque grab and lean defence together with a Foreman-Klitsckoesque use of the jab to obscure the opponents vision to set up for the right. He has still not much of a snap in the punches, (did later Foreman?) but they are heavy and suck the energy out of his opponents. He is very dangerous at this point. He only needs one more dominant victory (thus the role of Barrett) to make his quality common knowledge and set him up for Big Time Don King time fights.

Tysons conquerer McBride wasnt excatly a big acomlishment if DW beat him. More like the man that beat a Tyson 15 years past his best, who was fighting purely for money.

I hate this junk... They can't even get them to fight each other... . Why don't they just host a card where PBF Margarito Oscar and Mosley all fight bums... At least then people would somewhat care.
