    Default shadow boxing

hello again. I was wondering, what is the proper way to shadow box? and my other question is, when i jab, i sometimes fell like it's incorrect, like it's not powerful enough to take course, and that it could be parryed easily.

Shadow boxing is about developing feel and form and drilling in perfection through repetition.

You can't really do it wrong... you're style itself might be wrong, but the shadow boxing will correct it because you can see where it's wrong.

Scrap and Andre and a few other olt timers can add more, but you won't understand them. lol.

I also like to close my eyes and imagine. Imagery is almost as powerful as the real thing.

yea like Von said, close your eyes and imagine whooping on the guy... I like to imagine Im rolling under the guys hook and throwing a straight left (Im a southpaw) from hell to his ribs... then I open my eyes and do it in the mirror and check technique.

not only does it get you warmed up and correct your technique its a great motivator and gets you psyched to work out or compete!

A lotta times its better to use a mirror than your actual shadow...look for openings in your reflection that you need to correct, are your elbows pointing downward in a "V" shape to protect your ribs? are you holding your hands high enough? Chin down to protect against a KO punch to the jaw? These are the things you want to look for, but also you want to try to relax and see which angles, stances and positions are working best for you to punch from and move from. Remember your jab should be focused on speed and not power and you should be turning it in, like a corkscrew, ie, twist your jab as you connect so your pinkie is rotated upward. I like to make sure my rear hand is held high and even slightly in front as to parry or "catch" the return jab of my opponent...hope this helps a little! Good luck!

What's the point of doing that? does it make the punch stronger and faster?

Heres a little idea, I dont see much of it. Shadow boxing without throwing a punch, but learning techniques on how to avoid them for a couple of rounds each session . Try it its good fun think.

good advice. teaches you to keep moving. I'll do it.

who was that old boxing great that could win a round without throwing a punch? his defense was incredible. he just died recently, I think.
