Like fencing same thing ,overcommitment or lean is your worst enemy.
If you do lean continue the movment and go around from the hips or have your footwork taking you out of that trouble.

I just did a search and managed to dig this up.

I think I've just been working on this. I think one of the main reasons I have had trouble with my cross is probably over-reaching with the jab.

I mean I've come up with many theories over the last year or so but this is the latest one.

I'm also thinking it's a bit of a psychological thing. i often spar larger people and try to make myself taller I think just out of instinct similarly to the way a lot of animals will 'puff themselves up' when confronted.

As a consequence I come up on my toes too much especially towards the end of the extension of my punches and over reach.

I'm thinking it's all leading to other little mistakes. It makes me raise my chin and drop my hands a little (made worse by the higher altitude of my head).

I raise up on my rear foot more than my front which i think cause my right cross to drift to the left a little at the end.

I sometimes find it very difficult move after throwing punches when I have over-extended since my weight is grounded in the wrong place - head past my foot i think.

I cross my feet sometimes (as if walking a step) since my head leads the way and I need to bring the rear foot up to rebalance when my weight has passed over my front foot too far to move that first.

OK so all those problems are my chickens, the egg is over-reaching and letting my chin and head come forward and I'm thinking the embryo is psychologically trying to size myself up and probably poor computer work posture etc.

So best drills / exercises etc to fix all this would be?

    All good thanks Scrap

Maybe after I've got this fixed up my boxing will be only 40 % crap rather than 80 % crap

    I'm looking forward to it!

When you throw a cross especially after a jab you shift your weight and pivot your body....you slingshot your arm through the punch...it's almost like throwing a baseball only you don't follow through like you're on a pitching mound.
