Default Is Sechew Powell a poor man's Jermain Taylor?

The similarities really struck me this weekend.

Both are big, strong, rangy fighters. Both have a natural but very raw talent.

Neither has shown any improvement in recent fights, both badly run out of gas.

Both want to beat up on Contender stars. and both seem to have the judges in their back pocket.

    Anyone with me on this?

I agree. Taylor seems slightly more passionate in the ring though--Powell just looks like he's going through the motions. I didn't think he needed any judges in his back pocket to beat Smith though--I saw him taking it by 3 rounds easy. Smith sucks, especially when he throws like 10 punches the whole fight.

I think Powell may have just edged it. It was very much like Hopkins Taylor 1 imo.

Like Taylor Powell didnt so much start brightly, rather his opponent just did nothing in the first third of the fight.

Powell defintely lost the last third though and rounds 9 & 10 it was very much Hopkins Taylor 1.

Shame it wasnt a 12 round fight, could have gotten very interesting...

97-92 was just absurd though imo

    95-94 96-93 about right

I just watched it this afternoon. That's about how I saw it. If Powell had Taylor's energy level and kept up his work rate, he could be much better.

    That is funny.
I do not like JT as a fighter but I respect him as a person.

    Funny observations that you made.

Here, I will give you a cool click to even the balance.

I think we have a place like this in the US. It's called Florida.

God does not even wait for these old people to die. He takes a deep breath and then blows on a city and watches the old people fly through the air, trailer parks and all.

I thought Ishe took that fight, he took the championship rounds too. How 97-92 for Powell is unheard of!!

Thanks for the cc Danny_G. I don't know I've posted loads today, cracked some great jokes and nobody noticed.

I get sadclicked 3 times for reasons unbeknown to me.

Then finally I get a cc as a kind of sympathy gesture for living in an OAP Boneyard

Ah well I'll take your cc and return likewise

I thought Powell took it by a couple, but my main sentiment was that neither of these guys will ever be an elite world-class fighter (or even fun to watch, unless they're getting KTFO).
