There's something you do with a dumbell to work your triceps. I don't know what they're called, but you hang the dumbell over and behind your head, and you bring it back up, and it works your tri's. Oh, and don't forget shoulder laterals.

try this...lay on your back and punch up towards the ceiling with weights in your hands, be sure not to drop them on your face tho. I never tried that, matter of fact, I just came up with that.

hitting the heavy bag will make your punches stronger although bench press and the sort will incease it as well but its basically all upper body that makes your punch stronger... so work your entire body

Sorry to hear that mate, what kind of weight were you using? I dont do it myself but lots of people do with very small weights, could you have overdone it?.

Persistant pain should be checked out by a doctor or better still a sports physio.

i think thats wot ive done 2 my shoulder now that u have sed that, i tried a lil bit of shadow boxing with 4.5kg dumbells and bout 2 weeks ago i could barely move my shoulder, i have gotten a bit of movement back in it but it feels like it is mainly nerves that r gettin pinched and a doctor at the hospital sed that it was just cause of my posture (bullshit), now when i do stretches with my arm just 2 keep some movement in my arm in different angles and such i sometimes get a sharp pull goin down my tricep.
am i doin damge 2 myself by doin this, i no i should see a physio i just havent been able 2 get around 2 it.

The kind of weight that you guys are talking about really is too much (your injuries are testiment to that). Aim for about 3 lbs in each hand, keep those hands high and keep the punches pumping out, excellent endurance workout.

Best of luck with the injury Lockie

yeh thanx, it is at the best it has been since it first got injured but i still cant throw a punch with full strength, it doesnt always hurt when throwin the punch (im only shadow boxing, just 2 get the motion back) but when i push it a bit harder itll pull on the nerves and hurts like hell.
im finding it hard 2 have gotten back in2 the training and get real stoked bout training again at a gym 2 then have 2 sit out for 2 weeks with an injury after only doin 1 week at the gym.

strong legs make powerful punches. its all good having punch power, but it needs to be maintained with stamina. try ankle weights, etc. punchin power comes from the whole body. you'll be amazed how much it improves with stronger legs!

I wouldn't suggest using any more than five pounds dumbells. And I damn sure wouldn't suggest trying to punch fast using dumbells. Like you said, slow and steady.
