Default Boxing, Just Started. Essential Gear?

    Hi,

New to the game, but my Uncle from the states has sent me some gear... He has sent me a pair of Everlast 16oz bag gloves, now is this the standard size you would want them? I was under the impression a pair of 12oz would be fine for me but now I'm not sure if I should send them back or what. They look quite big...

    Thanks

Free gloves keep em! 16oz is a good size for sparring I use 16oz- trust me they won't seem to big and fluffy after getting socked in the kisser. Generally they use a bigger glove so it builds endurance in the shoulders and when you come to wear 8/10 gloves for fighting you'll feel faster plus you're less likely to hurt each other with a larger padded glove.

Of course if you don't like them you should send them to me

Thanks, I thought bag gloves should only be used for hitting bags... Can I spar with them aswell and hit focus mitts or should I get another pair of normal training gloves? These are the ones I got:

And if they are to padded don't that mean my hands will not get conditioned?

right thats better it looks like a combi-glove so you don't have to change gloves while training.

You usually have bag gloves which are smaller and sparring gloves even though I know people who hit the bags with sparring gloves. It really all comes down to personal preference.

I prefer using bag gloves so I can feel the bite I get from the bag.

You will slowly condition your hands with punching but take it easy - it's like getting a suntan, conditioned hands mean you've actually damaged them - albeit to a tolerable level - hands were never designed for punching. Also make sure you're wrapping your hands before you hit a thing.
