Default Felix Trinidad: Best Left Hook of the Last 30 Years?

Saturday night, Tito didn't land a single big flush left hook all night. Some of that was because of Roy's defense, and some of it was because Tito just didn't have the speed and reflexes anymore to perfectly time a left hook.

In his prime, Tito's left hook was a thing of beauty. It was his signature punch, it was the punch he used to destroy Fernando Vargas, David Reid, William Joppy, and Oba Carr, among others.

So, as the thread title says... was Trinidad's left hook the best left hook of the last 30 years (in other words... since Joe Frazier retired)?

jones' style has never allowed him to be hit with a clean left hook...so that's why tito could land it...i thought his right hand was the bigger threat

    tyson,

    holmes
    ribalta
and a host of others were knocked down or knocked out by his left hook.

i would say tysons at least matches trinidads if you saw it pound for pound.

It was a great Left Hook, but he has stiff competition in the last thirty years.
In the running you have Julian Jackson, Gerald McClellan, Cotto on the way up, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar, Tyson, Lewis...
Lots of guys using their left hook as a signature punch so a lot of competition.

I'd actually say Oscar's left hook was better than Tito's but Tito had the better straight right.

sorry i didn't read the topic all the way...but i think in terms of the hook being a signature punch yeah tito's was deadly but the best one punch left hook i can remember off the top is oscars on vargas

It was definately one of the best but I would not say it was #1 in the last 30 years. It did not have the one punch destruction capability to leave a guy unconsious like Tyson's or Jackson's. What made Tito a great puncher was not his left hook, but his complete offensive arsenal. He had power in both hands and when he had you hurt and down he knew how to keep you there.

Between his fight with Oscar and Hopkins he fought 4 times and scored 14 knockdowns.. Pretty impressive when you think that three of those guys were champions and Tito was moving up in weight.

Donald Curry's left hook on Milton McCrory was the quickest left hook i've seen.

De La Hoyas was better imo. Micky Ward had one of the best also.

Ray Robinson on Gene Fulmer and Carmen Basilio. If anyone has seen scarier left hooks I pity them.

I realise the thread title, but once you see those left hooks you'll understand.
