Default CARL FROCH & JOE CALZAGHE... why not??

    WHY NOT
I think that these two fighters should of fought within the last two years..
We all now that Joe Calzaghe is going for the money and the glory now, but who wouldnt when your as talented as him..
He is going to America now BUT at the end of the day his break-through came when he won the WBO title off of Chris Eubank.. Chris Eubank was the name he was known and was the experienced champion, but he stepped up to the challenge and I have got to say that Joe Calzaghe hasnt done that.. He needs to step up to the plate and take care of buisness in the U.K!! In my view as a fan of boxing someone that wants to see the fighting flow I think that if the is a challenge there they should have to fight two world title fights and then take care of buisness in there home land..
I think that Joe Calzaghe is avoiding Carl Froch because Carl's a good counter puncher fast hands and has alot of power! Carl has waited a long time to come to the fore but he is now getting there and now has a world title fight coming up soon and also the eliminator coming up soon so would be a worthy contender..
I'm a fan of both boxers but Carl Froch needs to be calling him out every second, if he wants a shot at Joe..

Is this supposed to be taken seriously or did you think it was required to write a paragraph to spam the website?

Carl Froch is not on Calzaghes radar for obvious reasons. Calzaghe will beat Hopkins and most likely pursue a further big money fight before retiring. Froch is a limited regional fighter who should really not be mentioned as a career closer.

Even a rematch with Bika sounds more preferable

Actually i would have liked Calzaghe to have fought Froch instead of Manfredo. But its too late now Calzaghe is moving up and has bigger fish to fry.

Interesting Eubank comparison. Eubank took just less than £100 000 to fight Nigel Benn, a small fraction of the purse. He was happy to get stiffed over money because it gave him a shot at the then big name in British boxing. His win gave him instant credibility and a huge fanbase, even attracting fans like me who had wanted Benn to take his head off when they fought. The Benn victory ended up earning him millions.

Carl Froch has had similar offers from Frank Warren to fight Calzaghe. If he really thought he could win he'd take any offer going for the same reasons Eubank agreed to fight Benn, or like Junior Witter is desperate to do against Hatton. They've all been turned down because Froch doesn't think he can win. Froch is just waiting for Calzaghe to retire which is why he's a 31-year-old prospect whose last fight was at British title level against a 37-year-old ex-porn actor.

Good point ICB about Joe fighting Froch rather then Bumfredo...hindsight that is a 500% increase in credibilaty for a defence...On Joe fighting Froch now? What does Froch bring to the table..nothing. After beating Kessler he'd be mad to take such a huge stepback and it's a lose lose situation..He wins..so what Froch's "a bum" is what will be said "over-rated" is what we'll hear. He get's old over night and loses..people will still call froch a bum and Joe's legacy will be in tatters...definate no-go.

What the hell has Froch done to get a shot at Joe?

Froch's still along the lines of Inkin, Beyer, Andrade..... Top contenders.

Joe hates him so much that he does not want to give Carl his best pay day.

Joe has made his legacy from fighting those sort of fighters.

I actually think Froch would have a good chance of beating him.

Froch biggest strengths match up with some of Joe's biggest weaknesses

Froch ain't beat anyone of great quality IMO, and a shot to fuck Robin Reid doesn't count (Sorry Tam) and how he has got WBC #1 is beyond me.

As a big fan of both fighters I'll try and explain without being derogatory to either fighter.

Eubank fought Calzaghe in my opinion because he was coming off of losses. If he was still unbeaten and had a chance of making big money stateside he wouldn't have taken the fight.

As to Benn fighting Eubank, they both came along at the same time and Eubank was very much a prime contender on the world stage when Benn was champ. Furthermore the WBO belt they were fighting for was a trinket belt back then and not considered much of a world title at all.

Also it should be mentioned that Eubank was from the very beginning a huge celebrity, whose eccentric personality generated newspaper sales and media interest. Both fighters were huge names not just in British boxing, but with the British public generally.

Calzaghe and Froch differ greatly from this. Whereas Benn and Eubank's careers were contemporary with each other Joe is a good five years ahead of where Carl Froch is, so a fight between the two has never been realistic.

Secondly Froch is completely and utterly unknown outside of hardcore boxing circles. In terms of money he brings less to the table for Joe than a Peter Manfredo, whilst being a good deal riskier. It made sense for Calzaghe to avoid him.

As a fan of both I personally don't really want to see them fight. I'd love Joe to retire undefeated and then enjoy a few years with Froch hopefully winning a world title belt and enjoying his own place in the limelight.

As a Froch fan I actually dont think he deserves this fight. He needs to prove that he is actually the best at 168, I think he is but untill he proves it I dont want him to just jump in with the best in the weight class.

The Inkin fight was the key to the door for Froch for 2008 and thats why I was pissed off that he isnt having the fight this sat. But it can wait I suppose.
