Default Resto admits to more than just padding removed gloves in Collins fight

    from fightnews....

    Resto admits loaded handwraps!
Former welterweight fighter Luis Resto admitted today at a press conference in New York City that he not only battered "Irish" Billy Collins Jr. for ten rounds with padding-removed gloves, but that his knuckles were pre-cast with tape soaked in plaster of Paris - before the hollowed gloves were placed over his fists. Resto, along with his trainer Panama Lewis, were both convicted, incarcerated for 30 months, and received a lifetime ban from boxing. The brutally-beaten Collins quickly fell into a downward spiral and died in a car accident nine months later. An attorney for Collins' widow Andrea Collins-Nile today filed a motion in Federal District Court to reopen the previous case against the State of New York. That case, alleging "gross and wanton dereliction of duty, breach of contract, assault and battery, conspiracy, fraud, and negligence of the commission" for failing to detect the doctored gloves was dismissed in 1994. With Resto's revelation today that his handwraps were also tampered with, something the NYSAC should have detected, Collins' family believes the original judgment would have been different. Resto's admission came to help promote a new film titled "Cornered," which documents the scandal.

Their punishment wasnt nearly harsh enough imo. And if hes just saying this now, that means that he either lied in court on didnt tell the whole truth. Sounds like Resto is trying to make money off this too which is a scumbag move imo.

That was so crazy; and tragic. Collins was a tough kat to take that beating like he did. Hope justice gets served for him. Thanks Ouma; good little read.

That was probably the most brutal and most controversial fight card in boxing history. Not only was there the Resto-Collins tragedy, but Roberto Durans grusome KO of Davey Moore was the main event on the same card.

    Pretty much.

I never knew it was on the same card as Duran/Moore

    Lewis: Resto is confused!
    By Lee Bates
Upon reading the Fightnews report of Luis Resto admitting that his knuckles were pre-cast with tape soaked in plaster of Paris before hollowed gloves were placed over his fists in his tragic bout with Billy Collins Jr. nearly 25 years ago, Resto's former trainer Panama Lewis had the following response. "I really don't understand why Resto is saying these things. Obviously he is confused. I never even wrapped his hands for that fight." In a February 27th, 2008 deposition, Resto claimed that Lewis wrapped his right hand and cutman Artie Curley wrapped his left. Lewis maintains that both Resto's hands were wrapped by Curley. "I already served time for something I never did and don't know why he feels he needs to bring something like this up. My father passed away of a heart attack when I was incarcerated and the rest of my family suffered as well. I myself have suffered a heart attack and don't need to even be thinking about this issue anymore. I have nothing bad to say about Resto and will continue to pray for him."

Those two fucking scumbags should be burned at the stake.

Besides the controversy and the cheating, Resto/Collins was one of the best fights I've ever seen. It says a lot for Billy Collins to have hung in there and taken those shots for the full duration of the fight.

Lewis has a lot of fucking balls... I think someone should go to his house and blugeon that piece of shit half to death and then put him in a car with no steering and put a brick on the accelerator. Suffered? Lets not talk about suffering you piece of shit.

Sorry, I fucking hate this asshole and anyone that works with him in the sport should be fined.

He has no bussiness going near a ring, gym or fighter... I swear to Christ if I ever saw him in the street I would hit his fruity ass with a 2x4... No joke!!!!!

Must admit I know nothing whatsoever about this case so will reserve judgement until I watch the doc.

    Sounds a bit shocking though.
