    Default GUYS V.S. GIRLS

There is a girl at my club and she's the only one, not sayin woman shouldn't box or anything because girl fights are some of the best i have seen. But she needed a sparring partner and since there were no other girls i said i would go in with her, but i pretty much ended up being a punching bag cause i didn't feal comfortable hitting her. How does everyone else feal about guy on girl sparring?

I've only had one fella who would only work defence because he was not comfortable hitting a female.
How do the other guys spar with her?

if you don't feel comfortable wailing on her face just pop out the jab and move - go light to the head but put a bit more behind the body shots....chances are she may feel you are not taking her seriously by not firing back and she may be looking to whack you extra hard.

Are you kiddin me HELL NO. Sparring is all about setting shots up and practicing. I did karate for 8 or so yrs. There was heaps of girls there, all i did was hit them lightly. Sure i think most of them hit me as hard as they could but to me it wasnt very hard so i just tapped them lightly with the jab and light kicks to the midsection and moved around picking my shots.

I'm a woman boxer and the only female at my club, training on bags and pads etc is one thing but sparring experience before a fight is essential. If i hadn't had the opportunity to spar with males, who were reluctant at first but did give as good as they got, then i wouldn't be as competant a fighter as i am now. Your helping us out! Its not like you're dragging us into the ring!!! jxx

isn't sparring about learning and not trying to be the tough guy?

You could be right but I've always looked at it as simply practise for a fight, and like other sports should you not go hard in practise to acheive better result game time. If you go easy on some one sparring then going your hardest in a real fight wouldn't be at it's full potential

you are meant to be practicing your SKILLS for boxing. IMO and the opinion of many others here is that is the way to progress and not to fight, some still believe going at it 100% is the way to go....it's up to you.

Most sparring builds from light to heavy and then down to light before a fight as the risk of injury is much greater when you heavy spar.
