Default How strict should my diet be?

Hey again, it's been awhile since I've updated but that's mostly because I've been extremely busy lately and haven't had much time on the PC. Since I originally started working out, running, and overall just getting into shape, I've noticed a big difference. My body's filling out more and beginning to look more healthy, I'm a lot more energetic, etc. however, I think I may be gimping myself a little bit with my diet.

Long story short, I just haven't paid any attention and eat pretty much whatever I want, and while I like the kind of progress I'm making so far, I was wondering what the basis of my diet should be if I decide to start monitoring it. Obviously protein is a good thing, but I'm not entirely sure on all the no-no's or counter productive things.

Focus: Can anyone give me a brief run down of what kind of things I should be looking for in my diet, and/or what kind of things to avoid that I wouldn't normally think of?

A few things to keep in mind, try to not mix different proteins in the same meal. Coordinate the amount of carbs you eat with how active you are going to be. Eat a lot of vegetables. A good rule of thumb is to eat the most basic food you can, i.e. an apple is better than apple sauce. Your goal should be to never be stuffed or starving. Check out this site

Unsalted peanuts and sultana's is a favourite of mine, but yeah sometimes (especially when studying) i'll have some biscuits. Just means you have to work a lot harder in the gym though
