Australia’s IBO middleweight champion Daniel Geale (20-0, 12 KOs) could challenge IBF middleweight boss Arthur Abraham (28-0, 23 KOs) in March if negotiations go as planned. Geale, 27 years, trains at the highly respected Grange Gym, which also has world class boxers Lovemore Ndou and light middleweight Robert Medley in its stable.
Geale scored impressive wins over imports Daniel McKinnon (New Zealand) and Geard Ajetovic (England) in 2008 bouts. McKinnon holds a world rating in the WBO super middleweight division. Abraham defeated Raul Marquez in six rounds in his most recent start but delivered his best win by stopping Edison Miranda in four rounds in 2008.
Geale would be the third Australian Abraham has boxed. He outscored Shannan Taylor over twelve rounds and also stopped recent Anthony Mundine opponent Nader Hamdan.
Geale has shown world class form in sparring sessions with the winner of the Contender Series and current IBO super middleweight champion Sakio Bika that had the onlookers at the Grange Gym applauding. He also has boxed world middleweight contender Sam Soliman.
Grange Gym manager Garrie Francisco said, “We are confident that Daniel Geale can cause a major upset and dethrone Arthur Abraham. Daniel is a gentleman outside the ring but inside the ring he is all business and has the skills to defeat the best middleweight in the world.”
