Default Anyone have any experience of travelling to Europe by train?

I've got a big stag holiday coming up in 4 weeks in Warsaw Poland.

There's about 15 of us going and apart from me and my best mate everyone has already booked their flight tickets.

My mate is becoming more and more scared of flying over the years though and wants to travel to Poland from London via the Channel tunnel.

Has anyone done this, not necessarily to Poland but anywhere from the UK the Europe?

I'm not sure how expensive this will be compared to flying, slightly more expensive I'd imagine but the idea of going under the sea and then travelling through some European countries is appealing to me, more of an adventure for sure.

    Bilbo

I've visited Eurodisney and went from Waterloo to Paris on the eurostar, on the way back we had to change and the trains ran well.

I also lived in Germany for 4 years around 10 years ago and the trains in Germany and service is much better than here, can't remember the prices but they are far more reliable from what I remember.

Moving to Brussels tomorrow for work, have to say the Eurostar getting there is pretty cheap, especially if you're between 18-25 like I am (only £50 return booking on the week of travel & much cheaper otherwise).

    That figures

I've traveled by train in Europe...don't expect an easy trip. It's nice and all but you will be re-routed and there may be strikes as well, so just keep that in mind when you are scheduling this trip

Sounds like a much better way to travel than by aircraft. By train you actually get to see something and feel like you've done some travel. I've never travelled country to country by train, but its something I would really like to do. I would like to just up and go and work my way around the world and just swim through the oceans that block my path.

Yep, you should do it, Bilbo. Sounds exciting!!

We saved heaps of money on the trains once. Things may have changed but in 86 the first class seats pulled out into massive beds we bought an open Eurorail first class ticket for $700 Australian. So we travelled all over from Portugal, barcellona, to Salzburg to Northern to southern Holland with every stop you can imagine and everyhere in between. monarco paris rome pizza florence germany belgium; lots of the time on night trains in first class so we didnt have to worry about being robbed in cattle class and didnt have any hotel fees at all, and we would wake up in a new place all the time.
