Default Anyone had a herniated disc before?

Turns out when my humvee flipped in Iraq I herniated a disc in my neck. Causes some pain in my shoulder/arm as well as loss of sensation. Trying to figure out what I want to do about it b/c it greatly affects my ability to continue to do my job. Any personal experiences appreciated.

I don't know what its like in the US but I know a few people here with similer injuryies and best results have always been with help from a Physio

Well worth paying for private treatment to jump the que over here its about £40 per session

It is paralyzing pain. One wrong move, and it will drop you like a sack of potato.

I had a partially slipped disk.....that was enough for me, I don't want to know what type of pain you feel with a herniated disk

I've got one in between T4 & T5 happened about 7 yrs. ago had 2 options.
    1 surgery
2 just deal with it and let it take it's course

I went with 2 every now and then it acts up but I've gotten better over the years.

My lifting went down and I still can't lift heave stuff and I'm careful about it. I can't stand for long periods or be in an angle.

I think it's up to you whatever you feel will be best for you...

    I had/have a compressed vertebrea L4-5.

It was killing me, no injury that I knew of just one day my back is cramping and my legs were going numb. Couldn't sleep, sit, get comfortable at all.

I went to a "non surgical spinal decompression" place and it virtually cured me. Basically they stretch your back out and the vertebrea will rehydrate and repair themselves. You have to go several times a week for a couple of months but it was miracalous for me. I only went to half my treatment and it fixed me up.

Seriously can't recommend it enough. It was very interesting because they discovered this can work from the space program. When the astronauts would return from prolonged time in space they were taller. They couldn't figure out why for along time but the zero gravity removed all pressure from spine and vertebrae's are like sponges so they refill. So they use pressure with a machine to stretch you while strapped to a table and it removes the downward pressure allowing the area to rehydrate. Worked great for me, the doc told me they have an 80% success rate and that includes there overweight over 50 people. He told me because I was in good shape I had a 95% chance it would work. Sure enough, 14 out of 28 treatments and I was done. Check it out. Way cheaper and better than surgery. I don't trust anyone cutting on me. Especially the spinal area. They take xrays and all that so they'll show you where the problem is and what needs to happen to fix it. Basically they assist your body in healing itself which it tries to do anyway.
