According to Nacho Beristein the Marquez Mayweather fight is happening at 143 with Mayweather being fined $300,000 for every pound he is over.

I'm not sure how Floyd will possibly be able to compete being this drained and I hope there is no honour in the victory for Marquez when he predictably wins due to Mayweather's dehydrated state.

Marquez is just a coward, move up to 147 and face the best if you can, don't drag them down to you.

Come on people, show your outrage here.

Mayweather's not a true welterweight anyway. Not that big a deal. If it was Mosley or Cotto I could see your point, but Mayweather is the smallest "welterweight" in the division. So I have no issue with that

Are there any belts on the line? No.

Is it at a weight that either fighter is going to have to make weight to the detriment of their abilities? No.

Nice try though, you're really starting to fill the void left by Xadu...

the silence has been a bit deafening on this one.

there are different circumstances (especially if Manny calls for 143 or nothing as that's probably a bit too much for Cotto where Floyd can probably make 143 ok) but I don't think Cotto making 145 is gonna kill him. Of course everyone can make up their minds on fight night.

My only issue with the fight is the fact that Marquez is gaining an awful lot of weight for a man of his size and age. But it's his choice to take that risk and for that his courage deserves respect.

Mayweather doesn't seem like the type of fighter to ever be out of condition, so I struggle to see shedding down to 143 as being particularly problematic. He's a little like Judah in that he is a small WW and I can see him being quite comfortable at JWW if that's where he truly wanted to be.

I struggle to see the case for Mayweather as weight drained or Marquez as coward.

Damn Bilbo you are very hostile lately.

Yes I have a problem with it. What are you planning on doing about it?

There's a big difference between the two situations though. One is a fighter coming up in weight, the other involves one coming down. One is (apparently) for part of the welterweight championship of the world, the other is just a regular fight (relatively speaking).

There's a big difference between the two situations, but then again I haven't seen anyone say that JMM is going to be at his best above 140 (or even 135 for that matter), so it's not like this aspect is being ignored, it's just a fight that isn't as popular as a Pac- SMM or Pac - Cotto fight and as such it doesn't evoke as much response.

Is that 300 k for every "unofficial" lb over the 143 mark on fight night? That would be interesting....how did Marquez look in his last fight at Jr.Welt.

Lol Bilbo. Some real thick sarcasm there. Is Marquez gonna get crucified too for asking a 143 bout against a guy who fought at middleweight? Hmm.. this is really interesting thread.

Btw, Pac-Cotto is not confirmed if it's for title fight yet. I got the Mayweather-Marquez 50/50 if it's really gonna be held at 143. It's a great marketing strategy by GBP. The fight will sell now.
