Hey old friend. I don't know if I agree I haven't seen tonight's fight yet but Dawson has still had fighting lapses consistently throughout his career - fight to fight and round to round - and that would be all bad against the very consistent Kessler.

But it's still possible, it's not like that's not going out on a huge limb, he's the undisputed guy in the division above Kessler.

I think its very hard to determine who would win that fight, they are both excellent fights, and Kessler is so sharp, and very quick himself. I was surprised at how close his handspeed was to Calzaghe's in every deparment except combinations, and I think that was largely due to the fact that their punching technique is so vastly different.

With both fighters being so technically sound, it would make for a great fight...

Kessler has a habit of finishing fights, and Dawson, with his fights against Tarver and Johnson apparently can't.

Dawson's superb defense might be too much for a fighter naturally smaller than him.

If Kessler's power didn't convert to 175, then it probably would not be a good fight.

I dont know.Dawson does not escalate to the next level on a dime, when needed quickly. He still coasts and gets to complacent.Kessler is a very solid straight hitter and would himself be on another level in with Dawson.I'd call it a toss up but I just think Dawson is reachable, does this noticable resetting pattern with his feetLeft hooks are there to land, especially over 2nd part of fight. He did a great job early of neutalizing Johnson right hand and sliding off,Kess has a truer straight right hand with maybe a touch more on it.Flip a coin but I dont think its a forgone conclussion that Dawson wins.Think he still has work to do,needs to stoke his internal fire.

I would pick Dawson to beat Kessler.

Dawson is just as good as Kessler fundamentally but is faster and more atheltic.

His ability to put fast combinations together is impressive and against Kessler he would use that to keep Kessler on the defensive.

Kessler does have a good chance in this fight though based on his very solid jab and the power in his right hand that would possibly cause Dawsons problems. Dawson does seem to lose focus half way through his fights and Kessler would probably be able to take advantage of that also.

    I say a 8-4 decision for Dawson.

any talk of kessler's lefthook is a moot point because he has a crappy slapping lefthook.

anyway, dawson in his adamek form would win a wide decision. he's just slightly more versatile.

no way would dawson beat kessler imo - kessler is to good and would of been one of the first people to beat johnson easily and widely, possible taking him out

No no no Kessler would dismantle Dawson. Dawson's trainer needs to teach him something called agression. Dawson will never be a big draw because he has NO killer instinct, and he's terribly lazy! Kessler is a much much better boxer than Johnson ever thought about being, so you wouldn't see Dawson landing those jabs so easy. Im just waiting for Dawson to get owned by Hopkins, I wish they would set that up next. Hopkins would put Dawson in a dog fight which he desperatly needs to get him out of the "most boring champion" category. But anyway Kessler beats dawson IMO.

Yeah, Dawson is the real deal. I get the feeling people are waiting for the next RJJ and therefore are never going to be satisfied with Dawson's ability and wins. Thats too high of a bar. Kessler is technical and has good timing so I don't want to make it out to be a one sided fight. But I see Dawson winning this fight rather comfortably. Dawson is not just fast and technical but he is athletic and a sothpaw is not the greatest choice opponent to have with those attributes.

I think you're definitely underestimating Johnson. Maybe to discredit Dawson's wins. Dawson has a better resume than Kessler. What about Adamek or Tarver? Its not by luck that Dawson keeps beating the best around light heavy. He's 5-0 against the great in that category. BTW, Dawson offered BHop a fight before he signed the Johnson fight and BHop turned it down. He said Dawson wasn't a big enough fight but I guess Enrique Ornelas, who he chose instead, is.

Really by choosing Ornelas he chose a still much larger draw in Jones Jr.They see the writing on the wall and wanna make that huge finale though the final negotions may be more exciting than the fight itself.I'd personally love Dawson and Hopkins over that one but in fairness Dawsons drawing power has still to reach big time status. He has time.

Hopkins is fighting Ornelas as a tune up for a Jones fight.

Jones is twice the draw Dawson is.

Lets not forget that Hopkins is donating the money he earns for the Ornelas fight to charity.

Bhop was actually considering the winner of Dawson/Johnson but Jones started calling Hopkins out so he took that fight.

Yes, I'm aware that RJJ is the draw and the major fight. I was in no way comparing Dawson to being a draw. I'm just pointing out to one post, who apparently has no respect for Dawson and thinks Dawson will get owned by Kessler and BHop, that even BHop is very well aware and respectful enough of Dawson's ability that he understands that taking him on could ruin a RJJ/BHop rematch. I understand the business of boxing and what BHop is doing. He should be doing that especially at his age.

Kessler doesn't have a left hook? huh? Did you watch the Andrade fight?
