Default The heavies need a Super Six

This has probably been mentioned already, but... how about a Super Six tournament for the division that the casual fans care the most about? Let's face it, the casual fan only cares about the big guys. So why not have a Super Six HW tournament?

Let's see, the entrants would be:

    1. Wladimir Klitschko
    2. Vitali Klitschko
    3. er... umm....
    4. oh wait, I forgot... David Haye
    5. Damn! This seemed so easy at first.
    6. Hell I don't know... one of those other fat guys.

Yeah, yeah... I forgot Chris Nipple. I realize we probably need a U.S. heavy up there. So OK... Chris it is. Now what? How do we promote this shit? Hey, here's an idea: How about showing some highlights of some of the Klitschko's recent fights? Let's see... there's Wladimir-Sultan. Er... no. How about Wlad (or was it Vitali)-Ray Austin? Uhh... naw. How about Vitali-Johnson? Ok, let's forget the highlight clips.

Oh well... it's the thought that counts. I really think we need some professional sports marketing people on this one. Any good ideas out there?

Super Six heavies could be fun in fact

    1. Wladimir Klitchko Ukraine
    2. David Haye UK
    3. Alexander Povetikin Russia
    4. Eddie Chambers USA
    5. Tony Thompson USA
    6. Oldianer Solis Cuba

Should the winner of the tourney be different than klitchko he will have the opportunity to fight agaisnt Vitaly in order to be the undisputed heavy champ !

I can tell you this tournament would be fun to watch

    2 title holder

2 USA fighters (to draw US audience) 1 UK (audience aswell) one of the klitchko (the man of the division) one rising star from russia and Solis who is really gifted...

Fun to watch, and it's all we need at this time...

    problems....

    1. The top 2 won't fight each other
    2. there is no one else to fill the other 4 spots.. unless you want to count Haye

Then it would look like a reverse oreo...With a Klitchko wobbly-H and david being the creamy filling...

Hmm... I like the international flavor of this lineup. Who cares about the quality of the fighters? It's USA, UK, Russia... THAT should stir up some patriotic fans. Hell... they don't have to know that by and large the HW division stinks like a 4-year old's diaper.

hmmm in fact I would love to throw Tua in there, just to see if they're still able to avoid his punches :-) but far too soon for him ;-)

I still wonder how Tua and maybe guys like Toney never fought the Klits sometimes.

I'd like to see a super six without the Klits.

You can't have a supersix tournament in the heavyweight divison. First off the two best fighters won't fight each other so that would automatically make it unworkable.

Secondly Tony Thompson has already been dominated by a Klitschko, Eddie Chambers came up short against Povetkin.

We know the only challengers of note to the Klits are Povetkin and Haye, and both will get their chance next year anyway.

A tournament there would be a complete waste of time as we already know who the best two are, they won't fight each other and it's clear who the next best two contenders are, and they will be fighting a Klit next year anyway.

The only divisions the Super Six really works is Super middleweight and junior welter ( actually lightweight might be interesting) , because at those weights we have an abundance of talent, but no clear champion, or contender.

The heavyweights there is no doubt who the champs and contenders are.

Same for welterweight, a tournament there would be pointless, the best two fighters are going to fight, as the other two best, the winners can meet maybe, hell it practically is a supersix going on their anyway, Cotto eliminated Clottey, Mosely eliminated Margarito. Then Manny destroyed Cotto, Mosely will face Berto, who eliminated Collazo and Floyd faces Manny.

We basically are having a tournament in all but name at 147 right now.

    1. One of the Klitschkos
    2. David Haye
    3. David Tua
    4. Shannon Briggs
    5. Alexander Povetkin
    6. Nicolai Valuev

My money would be on the Klitschko brother whichever 1 it was.

I'd like to see Tua vs Briggs or Haye aswel.

The super six in entertaining because the outcome is pretty much up in the air. The casual fan doesn't need to watch four other chumps fight each other to see who would be the first to get thier ass kicked by one of the klitchko's. The heavies need actual decent heavyweight fighters then we can talk about tournaments and bbq's and shit. Besides i doubt you can find enough heavies to even intrest the casual fan. Hell the current tourny aint bad i don't know of one person who isn't already into boxing that gives a crap about it.

I think there should be a contender tournament. And whoever wins then this would build a mega showdown with Vlad. The heavies need more exposure and more names to throw in the mix.

    1. Thomasz Adamek
    2. Chris Arreola
    3. Odlanier Solis
    4. Denis Boytsov
    5. David Rodriguez
    6. Tyson Fury

I don't see any problems staging a tournament like this other than getting the two Klitschkos to take part. Vlad would be terrified at the prospect of possibly fighting Haye so it's difficult to see him agreeing to take part. Vitali has a bit of facial damage that needs to get better before his next fight but they can just unbolt his head, squeeze it into a shipping container and send it back to Russia for repairs then he'd be ready to go.
