Default 2 Things I need to mention... Alvarez & Zab related

    1st things 1st.
I wasn't gonna post anything but after last nights fight.
    I feel like I should.

So last Friday I was at the press conf. for the Alvarez-Hatton fight.
Got there pretty early as you guys know I'm not media or anything like that.
I've been approached by several people and offered work but I just feel that if it becomes work it'll lose something for me. That and I don't have the time. Anyway.

Upon walking into the place you could have sworn Ali, Duran, SRL, Emile, Ortiz, Hagler, Hearns and with all due respect and just for the sake of proving my point they had dug up SRR's body out.
Security allover the place. I almost thought is Obama here?
I mean ridiculous. I've been to other press conf. smaller than this one and much bigger than this one (PBF vs. ODLH was outside the Chinese Theatre I would easily guess 200/300 people).
I can usually talk my way or get my way past security and blend in with the crowd.
Every attempt I made was useless.
Immidiately after the conf. Alvarez was escorted by 5 security guards with an all black Escalade waiting for him he sped walked out and jumped right in and was on his way.
I shit you not there was literally 4/5 fans standing there I looked around and was like why all the comotion and security?
I raised my voice and said "Come on... Really. The kids good and def. has talent but come on. He is not a superstar yet."
Someone from his management team spoke up and said "We'll see."
"I said look I'm not wishing anything bad, I'm a fan that's why I'm here. But come on when your best opposition is Baldomir & N'dou and your running out from side doors with 5 security guards that's a bit too much IMO. The kids good and he's got the tools but at this point he's yet to really be tested."

At that point I turned around started talking to some people there.

Anyway I just have to say that it seems like hype has gone to the next level with this kid now, GBP def. has all to do with this. Can't blame Alvarez for this but he should have a say in it. I think it's best to keep boxers grounded all this Hollywood shit that I saw for a kid who IMO was handed a belt is setting him up for a big fall.

All the while every single other boxer walked out normally I mean every single one including Ricky.

On to Zab now, if my calculations are right this is the 3rd fucken time the IBF has literally handed a belt to Zab. WTF is up with that?
Fuck Zab for life!!!! Can't stand his bitch ass. Fight Cotto again so he can spark you the FUCK OUT!!!
I don't give a flying fuck if he beat Matthysse in a eliminator.

Good post, CMM. Nothing like actually being there to be able to tell it like it is. Like you, I intensely dislike the way that the boxing "powers that be" can heap hype upon a chosen fighter, and by sheer will, force him onto the public stage, probably ahead of other, more deserving types. Nothing against Alvarez, but this happens all too often, and it sucks. And GBP is losing my respect more and more as time goes by. I wasn't a fan of DLH as a fighter... but I had high hopes for him in the promoting business, where I thought he would clean up boxing from some of its shady promoting of certain fighters. But it seems it's more of the same. Boxing will always suffer from these same maladies, unfortunately. It just comes with the sport. My gut reaction when I see something like that, is to root AGAINST the fighter, even if what's happening is no fault of their own. I love boxing, but hate the corrupt side that comes with it.

I completely agree Mick. Thats funny how you just yelled out and spoke your mind. Would love to see a video of that. Maybe a fan caught it on film and posted it on youtube. I'll keep my eye out for it

Maybe they are just used to being in Mexico when he could get kidnapped by some crazy JCC Jr. fan. As far as Zab, he beat a good fighter in Mabuza, I dont call that handed a title. Mabuza just stopped Kendall Holt. People are gonna always hate Zab no matter what he does at this point, I've just come to realize that and accept it. He went from being a trash talking loudmouth, to being a born again christian type. Yet people will always conisder him a punk. I am rooting for him, and think he looked like a lil different fighter, lets see if he can improve under Sweet Peas tutelage. Why would he fight Cotto? He went the opposite way in weight class.....

I like Zab too, but don't see him winning against any of the top fighters. As far as he being handed the title, I think he got a gift win agaisnt Matthysse. And he clearly got stun in round 6 I believe. All the top 140 fighters IMO would beat Zab. Only giving Zab a punchers chance of winning.

    4. Maidian
    5. Alexander
    5. Ortiz
    6. Kotelnik
    7. Rois

Lamont Peterson would be a good fight for Zab. But IMO, JMM should be next!!!

I'm a huge critic of zab....but for once dude fought a semi complete focused fight. Wish he'd done that years ago. Everything stated above is absolutly correct imo.

One thing for sure Mick, the conference really sounds like it was total bollock and powder to the eyes all the way from Mexico to the US I personally have never assisted a boxing press conference, I've seen a couple of interesting fights in Mtl/Quebec and Europe but that is it.
