Haven't you posted this before (if it is the sleeping pad just sticking out of the side of a cliff).

No it was a whole lot of pics of different set ups . If I ever see it again I'll just post the link instead.

First time I viewed the thread then there was nothing at all in the first post, now there's a vertical column of the red x's.

When I was sleeping above 3,000m I found that's when it was the coldest, and used to sleep with my bottle of drinking water for the following day (water was boiled to kill bacteria the night before) between my legs. Also, would pee in a plastic bottle to avoid the night trips to the loo, and I was peeing 5-6 times a night because of the altitude.

Important thing was to remember what was in the bottle, and not try to take a drink of water at night!

After it was boiled, to stay warm? Could you use pee bottles to stay warm too? With too little sleep and some stiff drinks did ya fear mixing em up in the middle of the night

Yeah, I was scared of mixing them up, but one was metal and the other plastic, so fortunately it wasn't that easy a mistake. Loads of warnings from the Sherpas about drinking booze, so I think I had one bottle of beer on the 16 day ascent, and loads on the 8-day descent. It's something to do with the oedema's that can happen at altitude, so didn't really want to risk it to be honest!

After that month on the trail, my alcohol tolerance was through the floor!

I can relate to the piss bottles. In combat it is never a short walk to the pisser if there is one at all. In 2008 I was living in one of Saddam's nuclear fall out shelters. The central air didn't work but we did have power and found a freezer. I slept curled up with two frozen bottles of water at night during the summer b/c it was so damn hot.

Didn't actually ascend a mountain, just did a 21-day trek around Manaslu, and went over the Larkya La pass, so highest we went was 5200m. Only one day actually on snow, but the nights above 3k are really cold.
