I cut down each round into 3 1 minute segments...and whoever wins 2 of the 3 minutes wins the round...pretty straight forward and usually gives a fair reflection of the round
job biscuit (off to butlins in the morning)!!!

I would only use this method if its a difficult round to score
job biscuit (hope this gives an insight to method scoring)!!!

Anything that gives a fighter an excuse to coast through part of a round is bad, IMO. A fighter who thinks he's taken the 1st two segments can put it on "cruise control" through the last minute. We already have enough of that.
Jack Kearns, who managed Dempsey and Archie Moore, among others, said that he thought judging a fight was the easiest thing in the world. His opinion was that two guys could fight ten rounds, bring in a 10 year old to look at them and 90% of the time he could pick the winner.
Of course nobody likes a guy to score the points and then run around but it is not against boxing rules. Let's take any sport for example, say, soccer. One team scores 2 goals and after that decide to just pass the ball around and make time. Sure, the crowd will boo, they might even throw stuff at the field, but they would go home with their win.
If a guy scored points, connected his opponent, etc. and boxed around or prevented engaging for the last 20 seconds of the round, I would give him the round. Why not?
priority of agression, more scoring shots and how either fighter is represented at the end of a round
watched agbeko-perez 2 yesterday, i had it a shutout barring round 1 and couldnt believe how close the scorecards actually were
one dangerous horrible bloke
If skipping around the ring, doing nothing, and then trying to steal it with a few flash punches and playing to the crowd were truly frowned upon, there would've been no such thing as Ali.
Firstly, let me just say that I have absolutely no problem scoring even rounds. For example in a close fight where there are a number of close rounds, I could easily score a couple or even a few 10-10 rounds.
IMO you gotta win a round by owning a specific margin of that round. Kinda like in British politics...
But yeah usually, I also split the round into three minute segments weighing things up as each 10 second segment passes by however, I always ascertain whether or not the fighter won each minute segment 'big' or not.
Then I use the full minute break to weigh things up.

There are real flaws in the 10 point must system imo.
I mean a fighter could absolutely dominate 5 rounds, with the opponent hardly landing a punch. He could bruise and batter the guy and leave his face looking like HTH's girlfriend, doing everything except scoring a knock down. For this would get 50 points to 45. The opponent could, inturn win 7 rounds, each by virtue of landing 1 or 2 more punches in each of those highly competitive rounds and he would win the fight! He could in theory land 500 less punches in the duration of the fight (extreme example I know) and still win the fight!!

Get yourself a couple of clicker counters and hole one in each hand, then nominate a fighter to each hand and every time a legal scoring blow lands, click for the fighter that threw it.
This is amatuer boxing scoring, try it but only count punches that land on the legal scoring area and by the knuckle of the glove. Also, only score punches that are thrown with effort and not just arm punches like weak range finding jabs and youd be surprised at how low the landed punches are.
I like kellermans rule of who would you rather have been. As long as fights are judged by each round and not on the fight as a whole i have no complaints. It drives me crazy when a guy wins six rounds of a ten round fight and people want to give a guy the whole fight for making a comeback or winning the last four. Same with rounds where a guy gets the nod for having one or two big punches reguardless of the twenty or so he was hit with. Punches don't have to be hard they just have to land. It's boxing not ko'ing. Perfect example the famous second round of the floyd shane fight. Shane hit's floyd twice and was automatically given the round since we all hate floyd and it's so rare to see him hit at all. Shane was beat for two and a half of the minutes of that round yet......
