Default HBO says no to Paul Williams-Ishida fight

Sources: HBO withdraws its approval of Paul Williams-Nobuhiro Ishida fight - ESPN

And they should, considering it's not a worthy main event type fight on HBO's BAD.

Totally agree an undercard fight this, Williams should fight Cintron again.

Williams needs a confidence booster, to hell with the networks. Just put on a card and get the win. It isn't an HBO main event, but it's a fight I think Williams needs.

I call bullcrap on HBO. Just don't smell right. Williams should not be in a main event after getiing crushed and should not be thrown back on top of lime light heap....Ishida deserves a name fight and is not some bum regardless of HBO execs and many of us not knowing who the fook he is prior to Kirkland fight. Think they have something else brewing for that date and won't see either on it?

Btw has HBO apologized for Alvarez vs Hatton top billing yet.

Very good point. They could show that, but not this. Hmm.

It's 100% the correct move. This is an undercard fight or a fight that doesn't belong on HBO. Miles is right that Paul needs a fight like this to bounce back from that devestating ko, but that doesn't mean it should be the main event of a card.

Alvarez v. Hatton only belongs on the main event because Alvarez has such a large following and HBO does have to play to its constituency/subscribers.

It's as "worthy" as some of the fights they show on HBO's "Boxing After Dark.", but HBO probably feels like there wouldn't much interest in the fight. I tend to agree, Williams really isn't much of a draw (i'm a hypocrite) and except to us hardcore fans, Ishida, is almost unknown here in the States.

The Williams-Ishida matchup makes sense...Ishida shocked everyone by dropping Kirkland and stopping him in 1. Williams shocked everyone by getting sparked the fuck out vs Martinez. It stands to reason that Ishida wants to move up in class and Williams wants a "pat on the back everything is going to be ok" fight ergo this matchup is perfect.

As for HBO showing it? HELL NO! Friday Night Fights YES, HBO NO WAY!

Williams-Angulo would be a good scrap.
