-Grinding one's chin into the shoulder of the foe during clinches

-Spinning the foe and hitting him from behind

It's an inconsistency in my thinking. I am generally an obey the rules guy. But I think in the most brutal of sports, boxing, football (the one where people don't pretend to have no arms) there is such a thing as gamesmanship that recongizes the primitive kind of competition we are seeing.
it's illegal AND intentional = cheating

Yeah I get that...and like I said, in boxing and football? On the field and in the ring I'm ok with it.

I'm not otherwise why bother with rules in the first place.

To prevent egregious actions and to organize the sport. I understand where you are coming from and 99.9% of the time I'd agree. But I like how, at the top of the sport, toughness is emphasized.

I think there has to be a serious distinction between flagrant fouls and getting bogged down in by the book bureaucracy. Fine line I know and easy enough to say from the sidelines but can you sit back and envision a match in which every single technicality and incident is enforced by the referee. We'd have a stable of Joe Cortez's as refs and they would need top billing with the actual guys we pay to see, the fighters. Not to mention a record number of dq's on the books for holding. Some guys fight out and some look to refs.

Something is to be said about letting guys work it out themselves and rubbing some dirt in it so to speak. Less we let it turn into a game of checkers.

It' obvious who are fans of B-Hop and who are not in this thread...some serious nit picking in what I thought was a pretty clean fight. This kind of scrutiny doesnt happen to every fight and it's kind of annoying.

I think you probably respect him as a fighter, but not a huge fan. I can tell Missy just despises him.

i was suprised to see pascal use his head 4 or 5 times in the clinch.

i thought it was pretty clean for a tough hopkins fight. watch the vanderpool fight if you wanna see hopkins fightin dirty.

Agree, the man has learned so much in the ring about what he can and can't get away with. I noticed against Pascal that every time they clinched Bernard put his left arm under Pascals right arm and around his back and pulled tight and pushed his head into Pascals, then every time the ref said mind the head he said he's got hold of my arm and sure enough it looked like Pascal had his right arm around Bernards left.

I was really happy for Hopkins though, I think he has set a record that will stand for a long long time here. I've never seen a 46 year old athlete in any sport look in such good condition let alone one as tough as boxing. In years to come i'll be proud to say I remember when Hopkins won the title at 46 and it was the genuine lineal title too. Living Legend, that's the only way to describe B-HOP.
