I love boxing and will always watch it, but I no longer care who is ranked #8 in the WBC.

The belts really have ruined it. At least in other sports you have a champion at some point.
The WBC doesn't even care who's ranked #8, other than the fact that they can bestow upon them the Copper Belt.

I agree that the lack of functioning structure takes away from the sport in a big way. There are still great fights and great fighters, but the context of where it all fits in the sport as a whole is seriously lacking.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I grew up watching Louis, Marciano Archie Moore, Patterson, Liston, SRR, Ali/Clay and many others. There hasn't been a year that's gone by in the last 40, that I haven't watched most of the best fights going on at the time.

I'm not saying i'm any kind of expert, still just a fan, but I do believe I qualify as "hardcore".
You 100% right. You're not. Not even close

    you have to start somewhere.
This gets to the meat of it. I personally think it's too hard for the the casuals to even begin to move towards the hardcore. For one, as was already mentioned, there's so much going on that is subtle compared to other sports; in other sports the higher levels of 'fandom' are more easily accessible. Also I think you have to be a bit defensive in general to be a hardcore fan of a sport so far from the mainstream, and I think that puts people off.

Every Saturday night without fail I have my group of mates ( girls, my girlfriend and the boys) watch the boxing weather that is through sky or a stream. I think recently they have really started to enjoy it since Cotto - Margarito 2. They were all a bit let down with Klitschko - Mormeck but they are all getting excited for future fights like Mayweather - Cotto. I think I have transformed them from not knowing much, to asking a lot of questions and actually understanding the boxing world. They certainly are onto how corrupt the sport is however which is a shame really.

Boxing is so rare to see on mainstream TV, other than channel 5, so people do ask me more questions about Tyson Fury and Eubanks Junior. I probably bore the potential fans to death with the level of detail I provide to their questions. If they become fans great but vast majority do not have a clue. More have heard about Haye and Chisora fight than any other boxing news.

Why do I get licked for that comment?

I try to inform folks when fights are on free to air TV and try to mention up coming and exciting fighters to fans of other sports to try and get them interested...a handful might watch some fights but most don't.

    I'm not quite sure, actually.

Is the Judah, Adamek card on ABC sports? That will bring new fans.

I do the same. If only it happened more often...
