Doesn't quite come across as the monstrous thug we are led to believe he was. Enjoy

He has huge forearms, you can see he has the power. He was in great shape here.

Cool find, Liston is a very mysterious figure who had a crazy life. He was by all accounts truly hated but I'd imagine that he was much more a product of environment and had to be a mean SOB to get anywhere in his shoes. He is perfectly humble and sincere in this interview, and I'm not really aware of him ever disrespecting his opponents or anything like that he was always quite reserved. Just a tortured soul with two oak trees for arms Nobody even knows how old he was for sure as well, himself included if I remember correctly.

    Just a couple of things:
    A) ilinformed people can be so fickle.
    B) I just fucken hate Larry Merchant.

Saddo- excellent programme. I'd seen it before and I think its based on 'Night Train' and 'Sonny Boy' as well as the Champ nobody wanted. There is quite a mystique around Liston and a lot of good books available on him.

yeah mate I love all that era for me it will always be the golden era of heavyweight boxing.

youtube seems to have drawn me in today as I watched this doc on Joe Frazier...

and I'm half way through watching this fantastic 3 hour one on Ali....

Strange how Ali was talking about the media saying how boxing is dying after the ali patterson fight... I guess nothing changes

A lot of fighters forget how important that "cup of tea" is.

There was this one short clip on sonny liston jump rope skipping and man he looked like a badmutha. I dare say he was scarier than Foreman or Tyson.

If I could turn back time I would make sure that he got his wish come true which was when he got off the plane for the first time with the world title he saw a crowd of thousands cheering him after he beat Floyd Patterson.

Nice interview of Sonny, poor fucker had so much shit to put up with,
should have been champ long before he did. ripped off by mobsters,
and hated by white America, no wonder he had a attitude.

Very sad, that has always bugged me. At a time when being the HW champ really meant something and the public still wouldn't take to him. Must have been soul destroying for him.
