What a shame funnily enough few days ago i watched his fights vs Salazar, Johnson, one of the best boxer/punchers you will ever see R.I.P Tapia.

I was just talking to my friend about this. Years ago, my friend did corner sales in Las Vegas, selling artwork, and Johnny Tapia came to one of his sales. They got to talking (my friend is also a former pro boxer) and he told me that, right at the start of the conversation, Tapia told him about seeing his mother being murdered. My friend thought that that was an odd way to start a conversation. He also said that Tapia was very tiny.
Life was a cruel to this human being but that didn't stop him accomplishing something wonderful...you made a big mark while you were here but will leave a bigger mark now you are gone
job biscuit (u will be remembered forever)!!!

Johnny helped me love this sport. He fought and showed a passion and fire in the ring that you can only dream to live life with. He had to be a fighter even after the gloves were off just to stay upright.
Miss you man and hope you find a calm and peace now that often eluded you Johnny. Go easy champ, be at peace.
it's a big shame but it's far from being a big surprise, Johnny Tapia was a true warrior but he was never able to cope with life out of the ring, may he rest in peace
That's sad to hear, RIP tapia.
Absolutely gutted, loved watching this little fireball fight,
another great fighter gone, R.I.P Mr Tapia.
RIP just when I thought he was OK outside of boxing.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
An autopsy is planned, hopefully he didn't OD or off himself, the dude was only 45.
Sad, sad. A couple times he seemed to get it together than had that last fight and subsequent overdose a few years back where he had family die on the way visiting him. Sucks :/ rip. no mas vida loca I suppose.
Rip tapia
I usually don't like Kevin Lole as a sportswriter, but this truly is a great article remembering Tapia for anyone who wants to read it.
Death finally catches up to the elusive former world champ Johnny Tapia - Yahoo! Sports
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
