Did he graduate already??
Let's see how he does in the 140 mix.
Wasn't he supposed to have a comeback about a year ago and dropped out of that fight? He will have a few descent fights. He was never going to be great and i can't imagine him being any better with years away from the sport.
IF Diaz can get back into his old form, physically and mentally, a fight with Rios would be very fun.
But who knows where his head is at right now. The last time he faced Marquez, dude got out of character and fought scared which was so not like him..
He comes back with that kind of mentality and his comeback with turn into a big fail.
He was busy and in top shape but, at his best, he wasn't very good. Fought real dumb and like he wanted to get hit with uppercuts. Hopefully he'll not look good out the gate and give it up for good. If he wins a few and tries to step up he has at least one bad beating in his future.
I used to like watching this kid fight. He listened to his trainer mostly and Ronnie Shields did right by him. He's probably feeling the pressure of trying to survive in this economy in a 9 to 5 job and not liking the scraps hes left by the Government (Like most of us). He can make a dent but not a hole. I believe the comeback will be shortlived. He had conditioning problems before due to his style and in some fights where the baby fat seemed to creep back in. That aside, i would have to say the beating he took from JMM was career changing and took some of his heart. He knew 2 rounds in, it was going to be a long night and it wasn't going to be pretty. Best case scenario, they match him conservatively, someone tries to get some rep of his name and he turns it up, gets a fringe belt maybe a shot a real belt and a harsh reminder that 9 to 5 is not so bad. Worse case: he'll never be able to find his rhythm and never regain form and get some painful reminders early on. Either way, i commend this kid for trying....but fighters have a way of losing that hunger in favor of self preservation... Bad mentally for a fighter but good for a kid that will know to walk away before taking too many bad beatings and starting to look like chop meat (Cotto).
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

From another thread last week,
Was really hoping this one would not try again. Educated, solid personality and lots of oppurtunity as a professional it would seem. Face first now with tons of heart and minimal pop, its going to be a long bruising haul.
Shocking: Must not be any jobs in his field that pay as much as boxing.
If Diaz looks alright and has a couple of tune up bouts then a rematch with Nate Campbell would be marketable. Possibly winnable and competitive.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Just read that hes set to face Pipino Cuevas jr ( of 9 ko losses) in return to be aired by FoxDeportes.
Real curious as to the weight.
He must have figured out early in law school that he could not deal with situational ethics ending with becoming a scum bag lawyer.
Wasn't Barrera also qualified in law but never took it up?
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
