So what does one do to celebrate St. George's Day?

Claret? No Old Speckled Hen Aren't you guys supposed to murder dragons or do something else stereotypically St. George-y?

Myself and Mrs Greenbeanz went out and had tapas for lunch Many English seemed to be embarrassed about celebrating St George's Day and as Al has alluded to the fact that St George was Greek/roman which probably has something to do with it. Then add in the fact that we are a Protestant country then Saints are not really our bag. There is also the association with far right groups and the St Georges Cross but we should not be afraid to celebrate our Englishness. The White Dragon flag that was around in the time of Alfred the Great has been obscured by rewriting of history but it is the flag we fought under as Angles. Funny thing is as soon as the Euro or World Cup football tournaments come up, houses and flats across the country in a great patriotic fervour will hang St Georges flags out of and across their windows and cars before us going out in the semi-finals on penalties. I think it is because then we feel that we are once again the Oppressed minority in a fake mini war.

We should really celebrate by starting the day with a full English Breakfast, go and watch a game of football and then drink some Good old English Ale. Making sure to join some queues and complain about the weather and the French.

The sad truth is that I'm more likely to go out and celebrate Paddys day than I am St George's.

No real reason, Paddys just seems better

St Patrick was in all probability born in England in the Severn Valley. He was carried off by Irish Marauders from his fathers Estate. So they literally nicked him.

I'm very patriotic in most other times, but today never ranks high on my calendar. Not even close to say a bank holiday.

I think St Georges Day must also include going for a curry at a Balti house.
