Quiroga is still and icon in San Antonio; his brother uses his image and name in a prominent anti bullying campaign.

Absolutely brilliant fight, shame about the injury, but Quiroga was on fire that night. Barn burner of a fight and an electric atmosphere.
Such a brutal brilliant fight. Short term Akeem was able to recover but suffered and Quiroga took some injury year and half later vs Borboa. He and Quiroga ironically suffered violent deaths far to young. Anifowoshe was supposed to do big things but that one really took permanent toll on both. Fought with 6 Oz gloves did them no favors and not sure that ever happened again.
Did not know about the 6 oz gloves! That was even more brutal. The height disparity was a lot wider than I realised.

While it's still June 23rd here, it's already June 24th elsewhere.

Anyway........ June 24, 1995. RJJ vs. Yo Vinny Pazienza. Ahhhhhh..... the memory of it still makes me smile.

Yo Vinny would've needed the help of some of Corleone's men to beat Roy that night.

    It was a beauuuuuuuutiful mismatch.

I showed my friend that combination at the end and he was in awe. Had to rewind it multiple times for him as he could not believe them.

I was dying for someone to take Yo Vinny down a few pegs, and Roy did that admirably. A few fighters become instant favorites of mine after administering epic beatdowns to oversized egos. MAB was one, and Roy is another.

Why was Vinny Paz on your bad list? He seemed OK.

One of those outsized egos who thought he was God's Gift. Thought he was better than he really was, when in reality he was just a pug. Got a lot of notoriety from his comeback from injury, which of course is admirable, but just made him the bigger-than-life personality he always thought he was. Yo Vinny was a jerk.... and I thoroughly enjoyed his beating at the hands of RJJ.

I take it you will not be the first in the queue when his film comes out then?
