Default Andre Ward said in 2012 he'd fight anyone at 168 or 175

But since then he's ducked both Stevenson and Kovalev.

From May 12, 2012: Chad Dawson-Andre Ward bout in the works - ESPN

Andre Ward "I am ready to fight the best 168- and 175-pounders that are out there," Ward told ESPN.com in a recent interview. "At this point, a big fight at 175 is interesting to me. I'm willing to fight anyone at '68 or '75."

Ward lost that battle, as far as the California State Athletic Commission is concerned.

Listen I heard Ward's explanation for why he doesn't want to go up to 175 and it made perfect sense.

Basically, because of opposing networks and promotions, his only option at 175 is Kovalev, and his logic is that if he goes up and beats Kovalev, which probably wouldn't be a PPV fight, people would then say "well Kovalev is a one dimensional puncher" and he'd be stuck at 175 with no options.

You also have to consider how physically taxing it is jump up and down weight classes, which would involve changing his training regime to strap on muscle, then he's stuck at 175 or has to shed that muscle to get back down to 168, which is extremely taxing on the body (look at what happened to Roy Jones).

This is why forum posters get a bad rep. Nobody bothers to think about things logically from each side or do their research, they just start pounding their chest like monkeys and accusing people of being scared or ducking this guy and that. Give it up.

Or he can do what Floyd does and come in under 175 like when Floyd goes to 154 he weighs in at 150. Ward is just full of excuses when he's career is over he will hardly be remembered.

Stop trying to deflect GG's cowardice.
Dude was ready to fight Jr at 168 but not Ward....DUCK.

If and when Ward moves to 175 you best believe he'll whip Kovalev with ease...if he's still around.

Kov's best win is the featherfisted Campillo.

If Ward is full of excuse then what is GG full of

He was supposed to fight ANYBODY from 154 to 168 but soon as Ward answered the call he got quiet.

Rigid promoters are messing up the game... primarily American promoters... I didn't even know Goosen Tutor was still around? Someone should dig up Cedric Kushner too!

I believe that if there is anyone out there willing to make the fights, it's Andre Ward. I don't blame him for wanting top dollar- and at this time, wanting to get out from underneath dodgy promotions and promote himself the way Mayweather does. That way you make more money and call the shots.

Just that Mayweather won't make the fight everyone wants to see- him vs. Manny. But, at least Mayweather has fought everyone else.
    Bigger man George, bigger punch!

So biased. Complete retard. If one fighter does it hes ducking. If an American does it its fine.

How can GGG be ducking Ward when Ward hasn't even had a fight in nearly a year. You cant duck someone who doesn't fight. We've seen Ward with a mic in he's hand more then we seen him lace up he's gloves. Get a grip man and look at things realistically for once you cunt.

Fuck it, my patience is used up as far as Ward is concerned!
If Ward is going to get his career moving again, he has to start fighting! Any man, any time, from any land, for any amount he can count.
His preoccupation with 'the big fights' and 'the big money' plus his 'tempest in a teacup' squabble with Gossen have effectively sidelined his career.
I like Ward, honestly, as a family man and a good person he is hard to beat, but he has to start fighting.
"Hey Andre, stop crying like a bitch, drop the I'm special act, get your fucking ass out of the house, and start doing what fighters do, fight."

Message boards are pure propaganda. Most don't want to think about a situation as it truly is. They want to build a mountain of evidence from saying things over and over. Hence on a Ward thread the trolls have to say Mayweather is ducking Manny. If you read it enough it must be true right. I'd wager this thread isn't even about Ward at its root. But looking at the details of the attack it's not difficult to figure out what's really being said, who's really being defended by attacking Ward.

Here's hoping Ward gets back in the ring soon. Because not that many boxing fans care but Ward is a great boxer.

Yeah but then he's a SMW fighting a full blown LHW. His point is that if he's going to go to 175, he needs to condition his body to move up there by putting on some bulk and getting there naturally, and if he's going to make the move up, he wants it to be the best thing for his career where he'll not only have the Kovalev fight but other options once he's there. That's not the reality. He'd be better off trying to hook a fight with Froch, more money to be made.

I like how because Pac and Floyd were able to jump weight classes with great success, now everybody is expected to just be able to jump up a weight class and whip one of the top guys there. Not so easy fighting guys with big size advantages on you.

He should have fought this spring or summer. He's wasting his prime years. I think he might like the broadcasting business a little as well.

Yes, he is a great boxer, that's the main reason it's so frustrating to see him setting on the sidelines watching his career go bye-bye.
If he's only going to go for big fights or big paydays and stay in the US while does it, he should retire. Everyone knows he is a great boxer plus everybody knows he's as boring as a slow moving river to watch.
Oh hell, I know all the purists out there think he's a beautiful thing to watch in the ring. He's this, that, and the other thing blah, blah, fucking blah, blah, but when the PPV numbers come up all you hear is silence.
He wants what Floyd has, but he won't or can't promote himself. He wants everybody to come pay homage to his skill, but the fact is most people who come to a fight or buy PPV, aren't purists they want to see a fight or an event, something they can talk about for the next month or even years to come. What they don't want to see is a fight where every round blends into the one before and the one after, and all they remember in a week is the 1st Rd, the decision, and the cost.
Get off your ass Andre, go visit the USA, go visit the world, and while you are doing that do some fighting, maybe you can pull your career out off the swamp you drove it into.
