Default Pernell Whitaker vs. Felix Trinidad in 1994.

We saw how a shot Whitaker did against Trinidad in 1999. Well, how would the fight have gone 5 years earlier?

I'd give it to Whitaker all the way. Pernell was washed up big time but he still made Tito miss and look foolish many times, Tito couldn't land his left hand (jab or left hook) with any consistency, and Pernell stood toe to toe many times, dug hard to the body and backed Tito up many times.

I haven't seen that fight in a few years but I encourage everyone to watch it with the sound off. That was a close, competitive fight for a lot of the action, but stupid-ass Jim Lampley went nuts every time Tito threw a punch and was talking about how Pernell wasn't making Tito miss when clearly he was.

Lampley is not a good commentator.

I have a love/hate with him. I think he brings good energy to a broadcast and his voice has become something my brain associates with the big fights.

But he's HORRENDOUS at discerning which punches land and which ones miss or are blocked. He did the same thing with DLH/Pernell (we all know he loved him some DLH), and recently in the Pacquaio/Bradley 1 fight, which yeah, Pac deserved to win but he didn't land half the punches that Lampley thought he did.

    I'd go with sweapea.
When I asked Pernell, could i take a photo with him, a few fans told me he'd say no, so i played the ghetto card.

He smiled as we stood face to face....i swear in a blink of an eye he grabbed & spun me...b4 i knew it we were side by side.

Whitaker's best weight was lightweight but he did build a good legacy at welterweight. I think Tito was better at the weight.

Prime Pea was too quick and tricky for Tito, in my opinion. It wouldn't be easy, as Tito was a beast and had solid boxing skills. Speed and creativity/odd angles would be the deciding factor here, and I see Pea winning the close decision.

On a side note, Pernell lives near me in Chesapeake, Va. I see him often and he is always a good guy and willing to talk, take pictures...etc. I'm not a big Hooters fan, but Pea goes to one on Battlefield Blvd. almost every day because it's close to his house and he can walk home after drinking.

    Isn't Whitaker an alcoholic?

Pernell has substance abuse issues. He has gotten numerous DUIs, which is why he has to walk everywhere. Fighters are a different breed. It's funny to me when people are shocked when pro fighters get in trouble for fighting, substance abuse, domestic abuse...etc. They have aggressive, impulsive and "thrill seeking" personalities. Pernell is a really good guy, just has some issues (like we all do, just most of us are lucky to not be famous and have those issues looked at under a magnifying glass).
