Default Paul Smith - What happens next?

Well, he got beat ,he left everything out there, but what now? Has he got the desire to step down to British/European level? Also, his brother is coming through rapidly and there may be more emphasis on him now. He does a bit for Sky, could he be the saviour that sends Jim Watt into retirement?

Hearn said he might fight Sturm or Steglitz or wait around for a big fight. He will be working with sky in the mean time. I don't think he warns to drop down the levels now.

    Hang them up.

    Stick to commentating.

Paul will not get any further.

He may not do but he will make a decent opponent for a name now. Theres tons of titles and could walk straight in to another challenge. He is a pro to earn money and he's just raised his profile and given a good account of himself and I would have thought will want to squeeze as much as he can from his boxing career while he can.

There is money there for him Ross but I like his commentating and if he wants to keep the ability to put words together why risk it?

Hopefully he has had the sense to put some of that money away and as mentioned he has family involved in boxing and perhaps he should concentrate on them.

I thought after the groves and degale losses he would have called it a day but the dream for world titles is still in him...I think he should have one more and retire a winner.

I don't think he has won the Lonsdale belt outright yet has he ? Think he should at least do that

I hear you Ross, but why would Smith want to become a doormat for anyone? He's done that most of his career anyway. The best up and coming fighter in that division is his Brother and that obviously ain't happening. I don't think he can be bothered with Rocky Fielding , even with the lure of the Lonsdale belt. I think he wants Callum to sort that bit of Family business out.

If Abraham defends against Sturm and Sturm wins he could be called upon straight away.

Abraham said that it's Sturm or Stieglitz next , so Smith would be waiting for Abraham's next fight, hope he would lose to Sturm and then MAYBE fight Sturm. Firstly , that would all take minimum about 8 or 9 months before a possible shot, secondly, they have this new German TV deal, so Sauerland might want to put Sturm in with one of their own (Stieglitz and Feigenbutz are both highly ranked with that organisation.)
Smith might get a shot, but I wonder how much backing he'll get from Eddie Hearn, considering he's already delivered 2 shots for him, and it would be nigh on impossible to get any of those out of Germany.
I personally believe Hearn will concentrate his efforts more on Callum. He's got years of making more money off his back. (Harsh reality)

Smith can get a shot at De Gale or even Groves as a warm up easy defence for George.

Smith is a good commentator and can do that any time. Now is the time for fighting.

id hang them up if i was him

ive been reading a lot recently about boxers after boxing and i dont know the stats but it seems fighters are much more likely to suffer mental problems and brain deseases in later years

hes earning good money working for TV probably, he doesnt need to take any more punches

if he fights steiglitz or sturm he might put up a good fight and be brave in defeat

Why would he hang them up when he can get a potential massive payday against one of the best boxers in the game who isn't a massive puncher ? Money like that would set him up for life, come on people...Be realistic.

The Scouse beard should keep going, he's still ranked highly and in the mix and could get another title shot and earn well.
If he fails then yeah swerve it but there's still big payday a for him out there.
Sky pundits/commentary don't get paid anywhere near what you'd think either 😉

For the record I don't think Sky should allow bin dippers as pundits
