Default May vs. Pac- the biggest ever?

Is it the biggest ever? Well, it will probably be the biggest grossing fight ever. But you can count most of that off to inflation, the cost of money, the amount of people worldwide that can have access to it via ppv and, of course, the hyper-drive motion that seems to be global mass media.

But, let's stick a pin there: Is this REALLY the "biggest" fight when we take away the money and the mass media, social media and relative publicists?!? I'd say:

    Bigger than Bowe/Holyfield 1 and 2? Yup.

Bigger than Louis/Schemling 1 and 2 combined? Probably!

    Bigger than Jones/Toney, Chavez Sr./Taylor 1 and 2, Lewis/Holyfield 1 and 2, Holmes/Cooney, Tyson/Spinks, and/or Pryor/Arguello 1 and 2? Most certainly!

But... bigger than Tyson/Holyfield 1 and 2? HELL NO!!

    Bigger than DLH/Trinidad? HELL NO!!

Bigger than Ali/Foreman or Ali Frazier 1 and 3? HELL NO!!!

This will most likely be on the good plus side of DLH/Mosely 1, and we only can HOPE for Gatti/Ward type action. :P

How old are you? I'm amazed you aren't aware how huge Lewis/Schmeling was. I thought every boxing fan knew this

There was a nationalistic pride at stake with Louis and Schmeling. Even people that didn't give 2 $h*+$ about boxing were glued to the radio because of the political agendas. It wasn't just fighter vs fighter or even country vs. country. Those fights was inflated in peoples minds to good vs. evil . It was insane.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

The promoters are living this fight relative to the times, there is no history calculated aside from osmosis. The promoters otherwise would realize that selling this fight can make them even more money. Boxing Louis/Schmeling was way bigger and at a time. It was US vs Germany before the war so everyone was glued to the radio more than 70 million. At the time the were 2.3 billion people in the world. That was almost 1/3 of the worlds population. Of course the 80 million Filipinos will watch this fight but how many non-filipinos? Lets guess 12-18 million? with 7.3 billion people roaming the earth that's about 1/12 of the world's population but only because of the Filipinos paying attention and the next biggest demographic is probably split between American and Latino. It may be the richest fight, but it certainly is not the biggest.

So we all agree it's not the biggest, but it's still pretty big.
That $100.00 PPV fee is a bargain in my opinion.
Boxing will be getting a lot of attention as the date approches.
We finally get to see these two guys in the ring at the same time.
Other than the fact that this fight is happening a few years late, what do we have to complain about?
Manny and Floyd are going to make a truck load of money, even for these inflation riddled times, and Floyd will be getting the lions share, as it should be. Floyd has the most to lose with that zero being on the table.
What I'm trying to figure out is why some of us piss and moan because the fight didn't happen and now that it's here, all some of us want to do is piss and moan about it for one reason or another.

Ali v Frazier was the biggest fight ever, I wish I was around to see that fight. That was an event.

Social media will make it mega-huge. This is the first mega fight in the social media era. Can you imagine Tyson/Holyfield, Louis/Schmeling or Ali/Frazier in today's era of mass media and social media? BANANAS!!
