Why would you even say that?

I expect lots of this is an early excuse from the money camp

Well it works either way
1. If Floyd wins the fight even being "not what he once was" he looks even better
2. If he loses he's 38, he was slowing down, he didn't have his heart in it
but the main thing is exactly this....it helps sell the fight because it gives people who don't like Floyd a reason to believe "YES we'll finally see Floyd get the ass whupping he deserves!" and it'll give the Floyd supporters more ammo to say "He ain't even in his prime and he's still great!"
At the end of the day it's just talk, words, words, words...meaningless once the bell rings
I read this earlier and sometimes mayweather Sr does baffle me with some of the things he comes out with but in all fairness I think this is just pre fight waffle.
As has already been said, he wins and a past it Floyd is too good for manny, he loses and he had a great career but it was said before the fight that old father time was already catching up with him and 5 years ago he would have pissed the fight.
Only problem I see with it is Pac aint the same either. Kind of cancels his mea culpa IMO.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
IMO it's more to sell the fight. People don't realize that Floyd is very calculating with his manipulation of the public through media. This fight is being sold on the hope that Pac can be the guy to finally give Mayweather the beating that people want to see him take, and Floyd has been playing that up in his interviews IMO.
That being said, Floyd Sr is 100% right, Floyd is not nearly the fighter he was a few years back. He's 38, he's at the end of his rope, his best performances are behind him.
David Lemieux = Future MW Champ and P4P King
In spite of his stammering, Floyd Sr is a very bright guy. It was definitely a calculated statement with a lot of truth to it. He is stirring the pot and giving Pac supporters hope. Playing possum verbally.
If Hopkins has been a model for how an athlete can preserve their body with 60 plus fights, I have no reason to think Floyd (if he wanted to) could fight at a top level for another 5-10 years as well.
He has less fights, less wars than Hop. Eats well, & generally walks around at the weight he fights at.
Problem is certain styles can make a fighter look old (Joe C vs Hop) (Maidana vs PBF) & certain styles makes a guy look like he turned the clock back (Hop vs a young undefeated Pavlik) (PBF vs a young undefeated Canelo)
Sure things that a fighter slows down in certain ways, but they become adept thinkers to combat what the may have lost.
Joe Calzaghe is the exception to the I retire rule. Even Marciano wanted to come back, but things occurred that prevented him from doing so. We will see if PBF can retire & stay retired when he turns 46 or 47 & the IRS man comes around.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
floyd senior has never been a liar. floyd junior is his lil' boy. he is telling the truth.
I think it is hype, senior being a bit senile and a bit of truth mixed in there as Floyd is older and a bit slower.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I can't believe anyone would believe what's coming out of either camp at this time.
Most of what you hear now is designed to cloud the waters, distortions, lies, or someone's attempt at comedy.
Does anyone believe that Floyd is going to walk away when he is this close to 50-0. You might be able to recite every stat Floyd has ever accumulated, but you don't know Floyd if you think he walks away.
