Default The technical coach and non technical trainer

Has anyone else noticed that amateur boxing has become non-technical? Most fighters will spar after 1-3 weeks of training, the trainers of today no longer believe in trajectory of punches since it won't matter in the ring anyway, the more punches one throws the less technical a fighter remains. Most top amateur coaches today are cardio coaches. Is it like this in your gym?

Well I mean they fight so regularly that obviously they have to be in great condition all the time. I think time is the key because kids only have so much willing to spare it so a lot becomes unnecessary until they are willing.

I'm not sure about the coaches, I suppose it depends how many there are and if they're all willing to sing from the same hymns sheet. If you see what I'm getting at.

What's surprising is where I'm at some one the oldest coaches don't care about punch trajectory because the kids are throwing 10 punch combos. They don't believe in balance because the kids are stepping forward. When I started we were told to throw from the chin this style the hands are held low inorder to get the 10 punch combos off and the feet are flat on the floor so they get the 10 punch combos off.

Sounds like you need to get out of that gym immediately. Find one where they'll teach you how to actually box.

Well it's like they say whoever gets there firstest with the mostest. Unimportant how you got there as long as you got there first with the heaviest punch.

If you try getting there without balance you'll end up somewhere else...

    ...the floor.

My balance is good both of my feet are flat on the floor, and my weight isn't following forward or backwards.

That is a curious take on 'good balance' and i would have to see it to believe it.

Feet flat throwing 10 punch combinations? You better have good balance, you'll need it.

lean forward and concentrate on straight 6 inch punches which includes overhand rights, left hooks and shovel hooks.
