I'd have to agree with that. Somewhere between '82-'83 and by the time he lost to Mustafa Hamsho in '83.... Benitez seemed to have lost his focus. It was frustrating for his fans, 'cause he was far, far greater than the way he ended his career.

    This is an incorrect statement.

Wilfred Benitez had been boxing since the Age of 7.

    Benitez Fact #37 >

    As early as 1972 >
Gregorio 'Papa' Benitez used to bring {fly} 13 1/2 year-old Wilfred from Puerto Rico to
St. Maarten in the Caribbean Islands for 'Weekend Smoker Bouts'.

Back then, 135 lb. Wilfred was matched with the local 'Island' Bar Champ.

    The Rules >
The Bar Champ was given 3-Rounds {2-Minutes each Round} to floor Wilfred.

If he couldn't > 'Papa' Benitez would win the bet. Usually the 'Bar Till Money', which
was usually around $200, or whatever the Bar patrons put in the 'pot'.

    Wilfred got ............ 'nothing'.

They usually had '4' bouts set up for the weekend.

And if Wilfred got knocked down and lost. He was in for another beating from his Father.

Gregorio 'Papa' Benitez .......... 'A Major Scumbag'

Wilfred was 'gone' by the end of 1985 at {Age; 27}.
