It comes down to who sells a fight! I wanna see Briggs vs Wlad a LOT more than Wlad vs anyone else.

Yeah , now he's 60th ranked on Boxrec. When he fought Wlad , he was ranked in some or all of the governing bodies' top 10, was 28-0 and was European champ. He'd beaten as many names as the Fury's and Chisora's of this World, yet is always given as an example of some cabbage that Wlad has fought.
I guarantee that if he was a Brit, nobody would've said anything like that. And if he was a Brit, people on here would've been giving him a chance based on his record.

It is sad that it comes down to who sells a fight-, but I woefully agree with you.
Even a ranked fighter is suspect. Taking into consideration which alphabet belt a fighter is ranked top 10, might not be top 20 in the other be it wbc, wba, ibf, wbo (I remember when WBO was NOT recognized by the 3 mentioned).
IBO, NABF, then European rankings.

On a side note-Another great thing about Cassius Clay- by the time he got to Liston he had fought 6 of the top 10 ranked fighters belt & RING ranked. Then defended it against 2. By Cleveland Williams; Clay-Ali had defeated 8 out 10. Him being one of the ranked, left only one fighter.

I think it simply boils down to quality of fighter. You could clearly watch Pianeta fade, flail and literally need the ref to stall a 47 year old late replacement and know he had no business in the ring with Wlad.

It goes without saying and we all know...the rankings are a joke. Even the once highly regarded Ring ranking lost the plot once they put Broner at 5 p4p. That wasn't because he proved to be the goods and showed solid skill, it was because he was making headlines and making people talk. Promotion ties help. Marketing. Guys don't earn it so much as simply being maneuvered into a shot based on what the champion needs. Bodies leave these "not ranked" slots at the top, in Wilders and the WBC case they have an official elimination fight with a guy Boxrec ranked #32. Then they top it off with allowing his first and second defenses to come against guys not in the top ten. Btw the WBC has a 50 year old 330 lb Billy Wright ranked 16. Old geezer has a fifteen fight KO streak going. He requested to be ranked top ten and they said he would have to beat a top ten guy to be ranked. Just not title challengers Its a farce. Wilder has the excitement and sells a local event in his home state so they just truck in cannon fodder and almost gets a pass on lack of quality. They are simply showcases building to what fans should be demanding...a go with Wlad. Though personally I think he is walking on eggshells with these gimmes. HE should be the one calling out Wlad. If anything he's been upstaged by Briggs. Spot on about selling the fight and the 'face' and scalp help. Briggs has history on paper if anything and personality wise stands in contrast to a reserved..in and out of the ring..Wlad. But that's just style over substance, what he has done in the ring lately gives zero indication that he can hang with Wlad. No more than that fat 50 yr old scoring ko's who has the marketing appeal of a glass of warm milk.
