I know he did not quite live up to the hype following Montreal, but he was an excellent boxer who had a very good probably underrated career.
Either way, 59 is too young now a days...

"Boxing is like jazz. The better it is, the less people appreciate it."
George Foreman
I was sad to read this and had been praying for him.
rip
Remember reality is an illusion caused by a lack of alcohol .
Lung cancer and never smoked! Life can be cruel. I knew he lost to Jim Watt but not McGirt or Rosario on a split decision.

Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Along with Mark Breland he was one of the greatest amateurs ever (U.S.). Always seemed like a class act, in my opinion. By all accounts he never drank or smoked, yet he ended up with that horrible disease. Doesn't seem fair at all. RIP champ, you will be missed...
Howard Davis made the same mistake as Gerry Cooney. They both sign with Dennis Rappaport and Mike Jones two of the biggest crooks in the sport. They were always looking for a quick buck rather than what's best for the fighter. Gerry Cooney hadn't fought in 15 months before the Holmes fight and only fought 3 rounds in over two years. Howard Davis only had 15 fights before fighting Jim Watt who was a damn good fighter. After that loss he was never the same. He lost that fire he once had. Should have taken there time with him but the dollars signs were dancing in there eyes. Once they drain a fighter of everything they have Rappaport and Jones would throw then away like yesterdays newspaper. Davis like Cooney never won a title. R.I.P.
RIP champion..
and fuck you cancer!
Watching him perform defined the gentlemanly art of self defense. Rest in Peace!
59 is way too young. Never smoked or drank alcohol!! RIP.
