Default 1980 Larry Holmes vs 2016 Tyson Fury

Holmes felled the Giant Cooney, but Fury is even more "gianter"

Fury is also better than Cooney.

Holmes struggled with quite a few fighters. Spinks he couldnt deal with the movement. Would be interesting but Fury is still maturing with each fight and by next year people will be saying that he would give anyone in history a tough time. They said that about Klitschko but even though Fury beat him easy its going to take a while to sink in, as it did with Klitschko and Lewis before him.

I do not think Fury will have the longevity that Holmes had I feel Fury will burn out like Mike Tyson did.

Probably not because he holds more than one belt unlike Holmes who never unified!

We will see but Fury has issues in his life, short temperament and achieved his lifelong ambition.

Fury strikes me as a beer swillin' rover with a piss poor diet to boot.

He's probably turning up a bucket of ale to wash down that roasted pig as we speak.

Holmes on his best night is an absolute nightmare for anyone, is all you can say imo. Could be a bit lazy perhaps, but the fact that he got caught with some of the shots he did can't go down as a big flaw when you consider how he recovered from them, and nobody ever outboxed him. He was well past it by the Spinks fights also, don't think that's quite fair.

Personally I never cared for Holmes because of the remarks he made as a racist and then when he approached the record Marciano had he turned a few heads with that remark about the old champ that was in his grave not being worthy to carry his jock strap. Larry Holmes of 1980 would have Fury eating a sledge hammer left jab. By the end of the first round in every title bout I ever saw him in, Larry's left bicep was swollen and filled with blood lubricating his joints to throw that piston like jab. He definitely would throw more punches than Fury and that right cross would make Fury shut up. He also-has better balance and Larry always did better when he was rushed as though he was an underdog. Larry by UD or late KO. Larry ill not through four punches a round and he rarely cliched unless he was grabbed by an opponent.

There were many people that thought Mike Spinks was awarded the decision that separated Holmes from his IBF title out of revenge for that statement and both fights were close to add to the theory. But as it stands I still believe that Holmes would rock Fury.

Holmes had his bad days and struggled with Carl the truth Williams, who is near the height, reach and style of Fury.

With a pretty deep gash over his eye...Carl gave a memorable/class on the jab---post fight interview.

He said "I had the quicker jab, but Larry had the more experienced jab."

Referring to the fact he used the Jab to score. Larry was shooting past the eye, slashing his skin which created the gash.

Only other time I saw that kind of jab...with intent to slash Lewis vs Klitschko.
With that said....Holmes workmanlike rate and experience carries him to victory or Fury.

I agree but boxers like Witherspoon and awkward fighters like Snipes/Slinks gave Holmes famous jab problems.
