Default How do orgs come up with rankings?

Was looking at Mosleys opponent David Avenesyen(sp??)since it is for an interim title I figured he had to have done something of note. Something!

He has fought nobody, absolutely nobody! And his 2 best opponents, the number 56 super featherweight in the world he lost to. And the number 89 welterweight in the world he drew with.

The rest is hot garbage. So HTF are this guy and Sugar Shot Mosley fighting for the WBA interim title and an immediate fight against the Thurman/Porter winner?

This stuff makes no sense. I get that fighters and promoters would want the most money for the least work but it seems like the orgs would benefit long term from being credible? No? Is this sport just a long running joke on the consumer?

Basically the rankings are based purely on hype, money and corruption.
One of my pet hates in boxing is how someone can get a shot without earning it while some poor bastard in the middle of nowhere can work hard all his life being the best he can be , yet not stand a chance in hell of ever Getting a shot. Just because he's not with the right promoter.

Like how the WBO is constantly becoming vacant then a Top Rank fighter is against a no hoper. It happens many times every year. When do we stop recognizing the WBO and just call it the Top Rank Championship?

I have a replica copy of the the first 'Ring Magazine' (February 1922). One of the feature articles was bemoaning the alphabet organizations and their ratings...

I had no idea Mosley was fighting lol. His opponent is a WBC Balctic welterweight champion with several defenses, I think that's plenty of merit for a WBA title shot. It's not like its the other regular or super WBA title after all

    IMO
ESPN Friday night fights had the best rankings.

Is the fight on ESPN because it should be?

Just read that there has been some late money coming in on this Avenesyen fella and he's now a solid favourite, checked a couple of clips and can maybe see why, in that he's decent. Absolutely nothing special, but he doesn't appear to be chinny or have stamina issues, decent workrate etc.. If you listen to Shane lately he sounds awful, the bookies might know what kind of shape he's in. Horrible that this is for a world title really.
